Taiwanese Government donates $120,000 to Ministry of Nat’l Security
Earlier in the newscast we told you about a luncheon held by the Taiwanese Embassy for several persons including government officials, former scholarship recipients, persons who had visited the mainland, as well as the media. But there was also a substantive donation presented to the C.E.O. in the Ministry of National Security, Retired Colonel George Lovell, in the sum of one hundred and twenty thousand U.S. dollars. The donation according to Ambassador David Wu, will be used to construct a new Belmopan Police Station among other things.

“Today we also donated one hundred and twenty thousand U.S. dollars to the ministry of national security. And this fund is committed to be divided into three items: one is called reputed, an electric device used by the police; the other is called mobile office and the big one, we want to financial support the ministry of national security to build a police station in Belmopan. We hope; it’s not in all needed to construct the station, but we hope in this way that we can also be helpful to have better safety in Belmopan for the community over there.”
Imagine $120,000 from Taiwan to build a police station in Belmopan. We could have built two police stations from the interest alone from the $ 50 million Barrow took from Social Security to allegedly give to BEL. People in Belize are really fools to accept all this hogwash!!!
I pray that the money is used for purposes intended and that the contract to build the station is not given based on who knows whom,. I hope that this building is built properly and is a building that is worthy to be called a police station in the capitol of the city. Let us stop building new shanty towns and build decent structures.
Oh and please don’t take shortcuts so that there would be left over money to line the pockets of the politicians or big shots in charge of this project. For once please do the right thing and do not rob this project blind.

It’s interesting that both Al and Storm are concerned that the money will be used for the “purposes intended.” I share that concern.
Sadly, the Belizean experience has taught us collectively to EXPECT public money to be diverted, misdirected, misappropriated, or just plain stolen. It seems GOB has developed a larcenous reputation.
