A $350 increase to be implemented

Hope Amadi

Amadi says the affected students would be paying upwards of three hundred and fifty dollars more on their school fees and there are many who would not be able to afford it if the government cuts off its subsidies.

Hope Amadi

“If the government of the day would say to its people, I am broke, I cannot pay anymore; what would happen to the people? Who will have the money? I don’t have it and I believe the students don’t have it and that is why we are saying the government should—2006 when the increment came to be, the students out rightly said we are not going to pay. The government said okay we’re going to take up the responsibility and they took up the responsibility. We thank them for that and we want them to continue paying. You can’t give up on students now when everybody—cost of living is going up every day, everything is going down, down, down and you want the students to take on the responsibility of paying extra? No, we cannot. We cannot, not right now we cannot do that and we’re asking the government to think about it—no, thinking about it has passed and we want the government to take it back and say they’re gonna continue paying.  My fellow students, you guys have to understand that the time has come. We have to stick together or we get withered away. And when we stick together we can achieve anything we want to achieve. This is a test that you and I will have to face and if we want to prove to the government that we have matured enough, this is the time we have to stick together and fight for what is good for one another.”

The once strong education system in Belize has become weak and a failure. The illiteracy level is so high in the country already, this hike in school fees will cripple the cuntry even worse than it is at this time. Do you want to see the future, look at today and multiply that 99.9%, it will be a sad thing.
Look at the politicians we have today, Boots Martinez, Fannagan and all the others who cannot put one english sentence together. Where shall we find leaders to take us out of this black hole of despair that the country has fallen into. I listen to our school children talk and even they are not being taught the proper english.

Every system in Belize is broken and no one seems to have one idea how to fix it, and spurn ideas on how to fix it. It is painful to watch what these greedy poitical financial terrorist is doing to the country, robbing it blind for their own gain, while the rest of the people who put the in office for the betterment of the country are going to hell in a hand basket..

What will it take for the people of Belize to say we are mad as hell and we wont take it no more.

Who should pay for a student’s education? Strangers or the student who receives the education?

Too many people in the Jewel believe life is a free ride. It’ can’t be — everything costs money, and people should pay their own way in most situations.

The students of this country cannot afford an increase in the cost of education, we already has a country with the lowest tertiary level educated population at 4%, 44% poverty, 245 unemployment, in the region our government contribute the lowest toward a student education. We can solve this problem by simply passing an education tax, designate a % of the budged with a funding formula tie to inflation and increase in student enrollment, increase the WINDFALL threshold on the OIL and take the money and invest in education.

For the Minister of education The Hon. Patrick Faber to say that basically the benchmark of the excellence of education is primary and secondary is not very rational at all, he has a master degree, many of the ministers sons and daughters are out on scholarship that they don’t need. In 2007 Mr. Faber said our national University Must never see an increase in the cost of education, ” its our one National university when I am elected my Government will make sure we subsidized the university so that the cost wont go up.. We ask you to Honor this statement Minister Faber…
