Accused robber hops into court
There was a brazen robbery of a local Chinese businessman, Jian Guang Li, and his wife by six men on January twelfth at their store on the corner of Mahogany and Mopan Streets. It ended with a shootout with the police. Five suspects were arrested following the crime and today the last of six suspects was arraigned in connection with this incident. He is nineteen year old Jean Pasqual who was released on Thursday from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Pasqual hopped his way to court this morning and appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer where he pleaded not guilty to the charges of robbery and kept ammunition. Since the robbery was committed using a firearm, no bail was granted and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. Pasqual now joins Alexis Ku, Gregory Knox, Steven Swasey and two minors already charged for the robbery. The armed suspects entered Jian Vin Li Shop and demanded money as well as an assortment of electronics. Police quickly responded to the scene and a shoot-out ensued between the men and the police in which four of the six culprits were shot.
I enjoyed these badmen getting a little taste of their own medicine. The neighbors helped in this case, as I recall, and the police responded superbly.
Let’s see long prison sentences for these crooks.
