Crime stats for January 2013

The police department has released the crime statistics for January 2013. The most startling figure in the district comparison to 2012 is that there were three murders for Belize City in 2012 and that skyrocketed to eleven in 2013. There was only one other murder in the entire country outside of the Belize District. Only two persons were arrested for murder in 2012 compared to six in 2013. The Belize District led in double digits for robbery at twenty-one in 2012 which reduced to eleven in 2013; there were forty burglary cases last January that remained constant at thirty-nine in 2013. Theft dropped to thirty cases in 2013. Cayo also held double digit offenses for 2012 with thirty-two burglaries and twenty-three cases of thefts. The only other notable figure of concern came from Stann Creek which remained constant with twenty in 2013. There were few occurrences of rape, theft, and burglaries and carnal knowledge outside Belize and Cayo districts. Countrywide, arrests for robbery doubled to twenty this January, while arrests for burglaries increased to thirty-eight. Arrests for thefts reduced by six to twenty-one in 2013, while carnal knowledge cases doubled to eight. In 2013, ten firearms were reported stolen while sixteen persons were arrested for firearm offenses. One hundred and thirty-three rounds of ammunition were reported stolen while four persons were arrested for ammunition offenses.
