Stealing hundred dollars puts you in jail

Luis Romero

A man with previous convictions is behind bars tonight for allegedly burglarizing the house of Kevon Jenkins, a traffic officer of Belize City in January. Forty seven year old Luis Romero appeared before Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith on charge of Burglary. The incident occurred on January twenty eighth at Jenkins’ house on Lumber Yard Crescent. Romero allegedly gained entrance to the house and stole a hundred and fifty dollars in cash along with jewelry and other valuables. Prosecutor Sergeant Castillo objected to bail because Romero has two prior convictions of dishonesty and there is a possibility of him interfering with the witnesses. Chief Magistrate Smith agreed and Romero was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April ninth, 2013.

People need jobs, many steal because there is no other way to get a dime to buy bread. Instead of lining their own pockets the politicians should begin to look at how to better reduce unemployment. I know this has been a way of live for many people, but for those who want to work a job could be a good thing.

  2. Storm says:

I agree with Al in principle, but this is the third time the man has been CONVICTED — how many other times has he stolen and gotten away with it? The usual ratio is something like 100:1. So jail is a good place for him.

Our constitution, laws, and political institutions have us in a hopeless place, where private investment, especially foreign investment, is no more than a dream. Yet investment is the only thing that will create the permanent jobs we need to have reasonable prosperity for ourselves and our children.

No one else to blame for the crimes, poverty, jobless little country conditions, but the belizean lawyers in both mafias running the country every 4 years.
