Matthew Williams remains detained in connection with alleged human smuggling
Matthew Williams remains in detention at the Ladyville Police Station where he is being held in connection with an alleged human smuggling ring. On Wednesday morning, the Orange Walk resident was taken into custody because this white van, with license plate number C-O-4-4-3-1 registered in his name was intercepted in the wee hours of Tuesday morning transporting some fifteen Salvadoran nationals making their way from the West to the northern border. When the police caught up with the vehicle at the Burrell Boom junction, five members of the group were captured; the others and the driver escaped into nearby bushes. But by late afternoon five others were captured in the Los Lagos area. 
All ten were charged with illegal entry by the Immigration Department. The adults appeared before the courts and were fined, but since they were unable to make payment, all are on remand. It is not known if Williams was directly involved in the criminal activity, but it is known that the highly connected businessman, was questioned back in June of 2012 following a search at his residence. The Gang Suppression Unit found approximately ten thousand dollars in the upper floor of the house. Also found were four Belizean passports, one Panamanian and one Spanish passport in one of the bedrooms. At the time of the finding, Williams claimed that he was assisting some persons with nationality and had found the Belizean passport. Williams’s name has also come up in another incident up north. In 1999 he was at an Orange Walk Town hotel room where police found fifty two thousand dollars in counterfeit U.S. currency. Two others were in the room: Colombian Onasis Daniel Melo Garcia and Venezuelan Silvio DeJesus Salinas Santamaria.
It’s really offensive to keep referring to a known criminal as a “businessman.” I’m a legitimate businessman, and there are thousands of other businessmen in the Jewel who don’t like to have people like him included in our respectable group.
Why not be more honest, and just call him a “criminal who pays the government for protection”?
I hope his protection will come to an end this time, but probably not — the price for it will just go up. Let’s see if Compol Whylie can keep the politicians off this case, and send the man to prison. It would be a great victory and a great example.

Police should stay on checkpoints 24/7 and check each n every single vehcle. not sitdwn in the booths n slp. a wanda hw much trips dis man has alrdy dne before, thats y he is nt afraid of travelling with these people

if his link to any politician he’ll soon be out like in the other previous accusation,
1. 1999 found with counterfeit money but he was released, why?
2. GSU caught him with false passport and large qty of money from proceeds of what business?
3. found related to human trafficking, a very serious crime, bet he’ll be free, why?
this is a strike 3 and yet bet he’ll be out, with politicians having string attached to these types of criminals ,we’ll never see a good result.
