P.U.P. against Castro’s alleged fiefdom over Port Authority
The Ports Commissioner Major John Flowers called it quits at the Port Authority on Tuesday. Flowers told News Five that Minister of State Edmund Castro had him hire his daughter and then insisted that Flowers hire his son. When Flowers resisted, Castro said he would take it to cabinet to have Flowers removed. With all the cards stacked against him, Flowers decided to move on. This afternoon, the opposition condemned “in the strongest terms the rank political interference and high-handedness displayed to the Ports Commissioner Major John Flowers as well as the continuing nepotism displayed by the U.D.P. government.” The P.U.P. also deplored Castro’s actions in treating a government statutory body as his personal fiefdom. The statement endued with a call for the immediate removal or resignation of Castro.
I’m sure Rod’s on board with this one.
Time to test the recall procedures or some other means to remove this rogue from office before he causes real harm.
I thought that your Prime Minister was a strong man who had his Ministers under control. Seems I was mistaken. Belize Ports Authority, although inextricably linked to Government, is nevertheless a business. The fact that Minister Emunda Castro has interfered with the management of that business in a way that does nothng to enhance the reputation of Belize in an International context, is deplorable. What experience does the Minister have regarding the control and development of the territorial waters of Belize? In a word. None! Yet he has forced the resignation of perhaps the only man in Belize who has years of experience in the management of Maritime affairs and whose ability is well known beyond the shores of Belize. Shame on you Prime Minister for allowing such an injustice. The internet is a powerful instrument and Minister Castro’s background is well documented in the media, it is such that it is hard to understand how a Prime Minister who professes to be leading Belize forward should appoint such a person to an Office that requires foresight, entegrity and leadership. The Minister possesses none of these qualities and should be removed forthwith.
I keep telling you all this is the most corrupt gov. In Central America period wake up belizeans.
I had believed that your Prime Minister was a strong man who exercised control over his Ministers. That belief has been blown apart by the dictatorial behavour of the so called Minister of State Edmund Castro. Belize Ports Authority, although inextricably linked to the Government, is nevertheless a business and is open to International monitoring. If the Territorial waters of Belize are not seen to be well managed and controlled by the International community then its trade will suffer. John Flowers has led the Authority in the years since his appointment with vision, experience and foresight and the fact that he has exercised his right to resign after being harrassed by his Minister is sad since it means that Belize has lost a servant who understood the job he was doing and had built up a reputation for getting things done on a tight budget. Minister Castro’s profile on the other hand, is well documented on the internet and tells the tale of someone who is unfit to be an politician never mind hold the office of Secretary of State. It does your Prime Minister no credit that he thought fit to appoint such a person to the Office of Secretary of State in the first place. Shame on you Prime Minister!
Your name says captain but you really do not know what has been happening here. For your information the IMO has a failing report for John Flowers and surely we can do much better without him as Ports Commissioner. You want to know whats going on here go and talk to the workers…
So sad making comments and not try to find out the truth, the only people who can give you the truth are the Port Authority employees who’s rights were trampled upon by Mr. Flowers. The employees wanted him OUT long before minister Castro even dream to be minister responsible for Ports and Mr. Flowers Knows that. Do you know of the demonstration in front of the Port Authority Office August of 2011? check your stats and come back
