Several injured in accident on Stann Creek Valley Road

Sometime around four-thirty this morning, thirty-two year old Felipe Williams, a Belizean driver of Corozal Town was transporting cement on a truck with a trailer from Dangriga to Corozal. Upon reaching Mile ten on the Stann Creek Valley Road, the truck experienced transmission problems and Williams reversed from off the highway into a feeder road on the right hand side. Whilst reversing, a grey Toyota Hiace van crashed under the midsection of the trailer. The van was extensively damaged. The driver of the van, Emiliano Sho of Maya Center, was badly injured and had to be rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital and had to undergo surgery. Tourists were also in the van: they are Joan Dillon who received a broken right arm, Karen Badia, Jared Badia, Susan Badia, Isabel Benrubi and Micheal Badia. Fortunately they only sustained minor injuries.

Your facts are incorrect (unless you consider the following minor injuries). One passenger sustained a broken hip, a fractured jaw & face/eye lacerations. Airlifted from scene to Belize City. After overnighting in hospital was medivaced to Boston, Ma. Another passenger suffered a fractured spine. Another received head & face lacerations from broken glass. These injuries are in addition to the passenger with the broken arm.

“Fortunately they only sustained minor injuries.” FALSE. My Mom is currently undergoing the first of many extremely extensive and painful surgeries because of this accident. Also the truck driver did not have his lights on – a difference that could have significantly changed the outcome of this accident.
