4 murdered; Ladyville’s Ernest Savery gunned down
The City was spared of murders over the weekend but in a span of forty-eight hours between Friday and Sunday nights, four men were murdered in separate incidents as violence shifted to the outlying communities. Two murders devastated residents of the Hattieville area and police are also investigating two others that occurred in Ladyville. At about ten o’clock on Friday night, Ernest Savery was fatally shot as he left his house on Perez Road. Savery had survived a first attempt on his life in 2010. The vehicle he was travelling in along with two others was ambushed near the Hattieville-Boom junction. But on Friday night, the shooter did not miss his target. Duane Moody reports.
Duane Moody, Reporting
Thirty-seven year old Ernest Savery was fatally shot just one house away from where he lived on Perez Road as he was exiting a yard. Reports are that a man dressed in black clothing simply rode up to Savery and fired four shots in his direction; Savery was hit to the abdomen. He was rushed to the K.H.M.H., but succumbed to his injuries.
ASP Christopher Noble, Rural Executive Officer
“We had a call of a reported shooting on the Perez Road Area and we looked into it. Somebody was taken to the hospital. We did confirm who that person was. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. We are looking at possible avenues in regards to solving it.”
But there was reportedly a previous attempt on Savery’s life. Back on October fifteenth, 2010, a hail of bullets was unleashed on Savery, Miriam Gillett and Silvano Cal as they were heading home in a taxi from the Central Prison. The bullet riddled vehicle slammed into a lamppost ten feet off the Boom-Hattieville Road. While Savery and Cal were wounded, Gillett received a bullet to the head and died on the spot. The then nineteen year old Ronald Richard Bradley was charged and remanded for the crime. It is believed that Savery, who was once an inmate and a correction officer at Kolbe, was the intended target in that shooting. Police say that they are unable to say whether both incidents are linked.
“Our investigation is still ongoing at this time and we are still looking into how best we can put closure to this incident.”
The autopsy on Savery’s body is scheduled for later this week. Duane Moody for News Five.
At the time of the 2010 shooting, Savery was working as a corrections officer at the Kolbe facility but prior to that he was incarcerated for the 2002 murder of Justo Jairo Perez in San Pedro.
Lives were probably saved by Savery’s demise. He wrote a long and bloody story, lives ended where he went.
Nevertheless, the killer still needs to be caught and justly punished.
He died like the filthy rat he was. MURDERER!!!
