Bail denied for men accused of robbery and attempted murder
Densmore Bowman, a resident of Belmopan, appeared before Justice Adolph Lucas in the Supreme Court this morning where Senior Counsel Ellis Arnold applied for bail on his behalf. Bowman has been charged in connection with the robbery of a bar in the Salvapan area of Belmopan on February second. After reviewing the application Justice Lucas denied bail, citing the prevalence of the crime. Bowman is on remand at the Belize Central until May seventh, when he is scheduled to reappear in court. Meanwhile, Guatemalan national Israel Betancourt Perez was also denied bail in the Supreme Court today, having been charged for the crime of attempted murder. On February twelfth, Perez allegedly struck a patron in the head during an altercation at a bar in Santa Familia, causing him to be placed on life support. His attorney Rachel Montejo was unable to secure bail since, in Justice Lucas’ view, Perez is considered a flight risk.

I’d like some follow-up on Perez’s victim — is he still on life support? We should pray for his recovery.
Violent criminals deserve no mercy, just harsh justice.
