Crime Stats: murders are up in the first two months of the year
2012 ended as the most murderous year in Belize with a hundred and forty-five murders recorded. The statistics for the first two months of this year have been released and while some crimes have decreased, the murder rate continues to paint a grim picture in particular in Belize City. In January 2012 the number of murders stood at four, while this year it went up by a whopping nine, to thirteen murders with the majority occurring in the old capital. The figure, however, improved in February with a drop to eight cases. In the Cayo, Corozal, Orange Walk and Stann Creek districts, murders also went down and so did rape, robbery, burglary and theft. Cases of carnal knowledge, however, saw a significant increase at the beginning of the year with over fourteen reports, nine more than the previous year and Corozal, Orange Walk and Toledo districts, experienced the most cases. In regards to arrests made in the month of January there were one hundred and fifty-eight arrests as opposed to the one hundred and twenty-three in 2012, that went up by thirty-five. Another figure to note is that less firearms and ammunition were seized in the first two months of this year. But arrests for firearms and ammunition did see an increase while arrests for drugs saw a slight decrease.
And the carnage continues how can this useless impotent incompetent pm sleep at night knowing that all these murders are happening under his leadership this is what he should be talking about but never does wake up belizeans if you do not kick this man out of office perhaps you or one of your family members ill be next to be found Ina drain.
Until our police and DPP working together can actually win convictions in serious cases, Belize will remain one of the most dangerous countries on earth.
Once they can convict the guilty, we need something like a “3 strikes law.” With a law like that, when a person is convicted for a second violent crime, the prison sentence is AUTOMATICALLY doubled. If they are convicted for a third crime, they spend the rest of their life in prison. Very few people commit so many serious crimes, but the ones that do are the ones that endanger the entire society, so it makes sense for society to lock them up forever. Repeat criminals simply forfeit their freedom permanently.
Wow cannot hide the statistics anymore. Let us watch and see how many convictions will be handed down and how many of these killers will walk out free. I believe what they need to do is publish the number of convictions in comparison to the number of murders so the people can begin to see how broken the legal system is.
