Salvadoran national wields machete at a cop

Hector Isidro Marroquin Amaya

Also in court, a Salvadoran national pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer. Fifty-eight year old Hector Isidro Marroquin Amaya of Belmopan appeared before Magistrate Hettie Mae Stewart where he pleaded guilty to Aggravated Assault on a police officer. Appearing confused, he told the court that he did not commit the assault and that his mistake was not throwing away the machete. Magistrate Stewart entered an equivocal plea of not guilty on his behalf.  Amaya was offered a bail of one thousand five hundred dollars plus surety of the same amount which he met late this evening. He is due back in court on May ninth 2013. The incident occurred on Sunday when, Amaya was allegedly seen wielding a machete and was apparently under the influence of alcohol. Corporal Graciano Briceño tried to calm him down but Amaya allegedly attacked Briceño with the machete.

Alcohol and machetes don’t mix well. He’s lucky he encountered a tolerant cop, some would have simply shot him.

BEFORE YOU GUYS ON TO PROCEED ON MAKING WORTHLESS ASSUMPTIONS, WHY NOT CONSIDER THE MAN AS LIVING WITH PAPERS HERE. THIS MAN IS LIVING LEGAL HERE IN BELIZE AND HE IS A WELL KNOWN MAN HERE IN BMP FOR HIS HARD-WORKING SKILL BUT YOU KNOW WHAT WE AS BELIZEAN LIKE TO DO? RELY ON DISTORTED EVIDENCE. WHAT IF THE GUY WAS EXERCISING DEFENSE? WHAT IF THIS SALVADORAN IS ILLEGAL? HOW CAN WE ASSUME THINKING THAT HE IS ILLEGAL? THINK ABOUT IT!
