Pakistani and Guatemalan nationals escaped police custody

During this morning’s now rare police press conference, the media took the opportunity to ask the ComPol about two recent incidents of perpetrators escaping from within the confines of police stations. Pakistani and Belizean national, Abbas Khan, was detained in Corozal on March third for having the passports of several Indian nationals in his possession. He was taken to Orange Walk and apparently walked out of the police station to freedom. Then there was twenty two year old Walter Leonel Boteo Ralda, a Guatemalan national who escaped police custody. Ralda, who was serving a five year sentence for a gun offense, was to make a court appearance on March nineteenth in San Ignacio. But during a shift change on the eighteenth, the officer at the station could not say what happened to Ralda. There were several emails and calls by News Five regarding the Khan case because his escape was not reported to the media and Ralda’s case also was not publicly reported. Commissioner Whylie says he does not know why the information was not made available and the department has nothing to hide regarding the incidents. The ComPol did state that disciplinary measures were taken against officers who were on duty and responsible for watching over the two escaped men.

“The report was made and the report was sent in the sitrep. Whether or not it was disseminated to the media, I can’t say, but I am certain that we are not trying to repress anything. We live in an open society; many times as soon as we press our buttons to send our sitreps, the media get it word for word. So it would be stupid of us to suppress a report of an escape that is known in the public out there. We have media entities out there so why would we want to suppress that. There is nothing to suppress. Indeed the prisoner escaped and again an investigation was launched and the officer who was negligent had been identified and I had also directed that that officer goes on disciplinary charges. The border was alerted and whilst we suspect that that person may have crossed the border, we are working without counterparts to see if we can locate where he is and cooperate in us getting him.”

“Again Mister Abbas Khan, again an investigation was done in that regards. It showed negligence on the part of three police officers. Those three officers again have been placed on disciplinary charges—the regional commander can testify it too. I think one of those officers has pleaded guilty and the two others have not pleaded guilty. And those matters are before an adjudicator. But that matter is being dealt with. Again Mister Khan, we have not located him, but we have been reliably informed that he is in Chetumal. The commander has spoken to his Mexican counterparts to assist us. We don’t know where he is or his status, but we do know that he is a Belizean. I don’t know how long Belizeans are allowed to stay over in Chetumal without stamping.”

“Were these officer collaborating with Mister Khan?”

“There is nothing to indicate that they were. I think the investigation shows that Mister Khan was indicating that he was not feeling well and he was placed to sit somewhere in the station and the officers took it for granted that he would not escape. And they did not pay the level of attention that they should have had and that’s why we are dealing with them.”
All in all, four cops are on interdiction tonight for rape and for the escape of suspects.

Does anyone at ComPol know how long Mexicans are allowed to stay over in Corozal without stamping?
Maybe this Belize-Paki has one of those Belizean Hezbollah passports hidden and won’t stay long in Chetumal.
Does he have a real address in Belize, like those Chinese/Japanese/Hatian who landed late night at the airport?

Roman law provided that when a prisoner escaped, his jailer had to serve the rest of the sentence.
A law like that here would probably reduce the temptation for corrupt police to let criminals go free. I wonder if Compol Whylie would support such a law in the Jewel?
And where is Hon. John Saldivar to address these issues, and rape by police? Now that he is finished harassing the teachers, he should be able to return to “protecting” us.
Escapes: what’s going on with police? I recall people’s coalition installed video cameras all over the police station in Cayo and Benque years ago, this should be easy to solve what happened if they really want to? Oh yea remember the death of the Canadian in Cayo jail a few weeks ago? what game is being played here? give the media the video then we all see!

Abbas Khan is just a Belizean citizen and resident of Chetumal Quintana Roo. Mexico. Also that he was Pakistani National, before naturalized in Belize.
Since, Belize / Pakistan relations doesn’t offer duel nationality, Belizean must need visa to visit Pakistan.
I personally feel offence, When our media is making this mistake to be involving Pakistan for No reason.
