Woman alleges cop raped her

Allen Whylie

A woman from Bullet Tree village in Cayo has accused two police officers of rape. The alleged incident occurred on March twenty-third after she and her partner were having a dispute and were reportedly intoxicated. Both persons were removed separately from the bar and the woman subsequently claimed she was raped by two officers. According to the Commissioner of Police, Allen Whylie, the woman had changed her story and did not wish to press charges but because the allegations are serious, he deployed senior Superintendent Louise Willis to speak to the alleged victim.  According to the ComPol, one of the officers has been placed on disciplinary charges.

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“Such a report did was made to the police. There is the criminal investigation being done and there is also the internal investigation being done. Those two officers have been reassigned away from that area and they are in Belmopan. I won’t say who they are, but it is a very serious complaint made. We are addressing it. The victim has indicated since making her original complaint that she does not want to pursue the matter. I dispatched a senior officer to speak to her because a situation of this nature, we cannot allow to go unpunished.  I have since learnt that the victim is prepared to proceed disciplinary. Despite that that file will be completed, it will be sent to the D.P.P.  for her advice and that officer because I think the investigation is basically showing only one police to have been involved. I have already given instruction that that officer will go on disciplinary charges and he will be immediately interdicted from duty pending the outcome. The officers and I will clear it up because it would be improper to allude to the fact that the officers are from San Ignacio. The officers are not from San Ignacio. So I want to make that quite clear. They were working at Bullet Tree check point, but they are not from San Ignacio. So I want that clear; it’s not officers from San Ignacio. So we are dealing with it. And I have full confidence that even if it were officers from San Ignacio, the officer commanding would have dealt with those persons because he has done so through the years and also since he has been in San Ignacio.”

I hope DNA testing was done, so that nobody will be charged improperly, and no guilty man will escape.

Public employees, especially [police, who commit crimes should receive double the punishment of regular criminals, because they are not only criminals, they betray a public trust.
