Psychiatric evaluation ordered for cab driver who escaped police

A Belize City taxi cab driver was slapped with five offenses ranging from Aggravated Assault upon a police officer to Escape from Lawful Custody. Thirty-nine year old Lincoln Miguel appeared before Hettie Mae Stewart and was read three of five counts due to his unusual behavior in court. Magistrate Stewart ordered a psychiatric evaluation but remanded him to the Belize Central Prison until a later date. The court will await the evaluation to determine if Miguel is of sound mind to be tried for the five counts including the indictable matter of escape. On Monday police responded to an altercation between two men on Magazine Road, Miguel was identified as one of the men. It is alleged that when Police approached Miguel, he began to act up, resisted arrest and allegedly wounded a police officer who tried to place him under arrest. Miguel managed to escape but was later caught.

I’m thinking in an ideal world, we would have a lot more resources to identify and deal with unbalanced people. Too bad our nation is too impoverished to help those who are too deranged to help themselves. That would be a humane and useful place for government to spend our money, instead of the myriad scams.

A sad situation that underlines the need for more and more modern mental health resources here in the Jewel.

Here are two online resources that I think are credible and can give you more information about treatment of your son’s condition, one from the US government health institute, and one regarding how diet can reduce symptoms of schizophrenia.
