Cycling elections result protested

emil moreno

The Belize Cycling Association is currently having elections in each district to usher in a new board. The incumbent president, Emil Moreno won the western zone on Sunday, but there is already a protest against the results of the elections. The president of the Belize Olympic Committee, Hilly Martinez, has confirmed receipt of the protest.  The Belize Olympic Association’s Legislative Council comprised of Rodwell Williams, Samira Musa Pott and Lionel Welch, will set a date and time for a hearing to make a decision. The protest arises from complaints made about the conduct of Sunday’s elections. There are many allegations including that a Guatemalan was registered to vote while prominent sponsors of the cycling community in Cayo were not allowed to vote.

Why is our Olympic Legislative Council composed of nothing but lawyers, not an athlete among them?

“A country man between two lawyers is like a fish between two cats.” Benjamin Franklin.

“One lawyer in a small town will starve, but two lawyers will both get rich.” Mark Twain, I think.

“First thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” William Shakespeare.
