Empowering Education for Children in Today’s Society

The University of Belize is also paving roads of sorts for the future of our youths. U.B. will be hosting a biannual community outreach symposium under the theme ‘Empowering Education for Children in Today’s Society.’ It’s a popular event which is usually well attended, especially by students who plan to attend the university, but also by teachers and parents. Topics at the symposium will include career options, vocational programs, motivational learning, special needs education for parents and teachers and behavioral disorders. Organizers Andy Gilharry and Ardette McFadzean stopped by our studio to tell us more, and to extend an open invitation to the symposium.

Andy Gilharry, UB Student, Bachelors Program

“For the previous symposium, we had about a thousand plus people going there and we realized that many people have been noticing exactly what UB is bringing forth when it comes to educating the public, students and parents. And especially for this year, I think that it will be more interesting because we have some booths that are really important; for example, the career counseling. Some of these students go into third form; they need to take science or business to see what they want to be in the future. If they want to be a doctor, they can take science and those stuff. We have realized in the primary schools and high schools, there are not many career counseling going on. At this stage, you have to know exactly what to take in order to go forth in life. So we are actually setting the pace for them to see exactly whether they want to be a doctor, a lawyer or something else.”

“We are inviting everyone especially those in the Belmopan area because we will be having prizes being raffled every half an hour. And it starts from ten-thirty to one-thirty p.m. We have snacks, drinks and all types of games to encourage students to want to learn.”

“She said it before, but I’ll say it again you know, free information, free food, free gifts, free prizes, free activities. And it is very important that these information go out in the public so that we can make a bigger change in Belize.”

The symposium will be held at the Jaguar Auditorium at UB’s Central Campus in Belmopan on Thursday. It will be a very busy day for the Central Campus which will also be hosting Earth Day activities.

  1. Storm says:

If our budget ever had any surplus over paying for the real essentials, I’d like to see it invested to get UB accredited and to become a prominent Caribbean university.

Maximizing knowledge and education really is the key to success and prosperity for most people. [Excepting lottery winners, pro athletes, successful recording artists, and folks like that.]
