John Baptist convicted of carnal knowledge against 6 year old

A man has been found guilty of two counts of aggravated assault of an indecent nature, and is awaiting sentencing for that crime. Thirty-eight year old John Baptist Sr. was accused of one count of carnal knowledge and three counts of aggravated assault of an indecent nature for crimes he allegedly committed against a six year old minor in 2003. The minor, now fifteen, claimed that on one occasion Baptist had sex with her, and then on three other occasions he fondled her and even performed oral sex on her. Baptist, who was unrepresented, denied all allegations against him. This evening a jury of nine persons could not reach a verdict on the charge of carnal knowledge and for one count of aggravated assault, but they did find him guilty on two counts of aggravated assault. Justice Troadio Gonzalez, who heard the case, reserved sentencing for May third, when mitigation pleas will be heard on Baptist’s behalf. While Baptist faces time behind bars, he has escaped the most serious charge of carnal knowledge which could have meant jail time of up to twelve years.
