El Turk extradition case meets roadblock
The extradition case against businessman Khalid Jamil El Turk, of Lebanese extraction and wanted by U.S. authorities for conspiracy to import pseudo-ephedrine, resumed today before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith. El Turk, who has been on remand since October 2012, is represented by attorneys Edwin Flowers and Anthony Sylvester. After tendering a bundle of documents as evidence for his extradition in December, Attorney Magali Perdomo today altered her argument in light of the fact that there is currently no legislation prohibiting such purported offence in Belize. According to Sylvester, the act, in this case a scheme to smuggle the chemical precursor to methamphetamine into the United States, has to be considered, by law, illegal in both countries in order for a claim requesting Turk’s deportation to be valid.
Anthony Sylvester, Attorney representing Khalid El Turk
“You will recall that Mr. El Turk, in October of last year, a provisional warrant was submitted by the United States government for his arrest. He has been on remand at the Kolbe facility since then. On the fourth of April the extradition proceedings started. Mr. Edwin Flowers, senior counsel, and myself appear on behalf of Mr. El Turk. Mr. Flowers, at those proceedings, had submitted to the court the three bases why the defendant objects to his extradition and those were firstly, that the crime to which he is alleged to have committed and which he is quickly and expeditiously.”
El Turk’s extradition hearing resumes on May sixteenth.
This is just the beginning of Hezbollah and Middle Eastern terrorists infiltrating this country. Belize will become a staging ground for terrorist attacks in the Americas, especially the great USA. This is largely due to our corrupted ministers and high level public officials who colluded with them because of the Almighty Dollar.
can we exchange him for McAfee?? Oh I forgot….. McAfee is an american…!!! let’s not even dream about it….
BMNJ…. you seem so eager to protect the “great USA”…. Thanks to their insatiable apetite for drugs we have crack overspill on our streets and so much gang killings…..and thanks to their foreign policies they are target of so many “terrorist” attacks…dont get me wrong…I dont condone terrorism in any form… but newton’s law on forces of action is right….
wake up people….
Hey Roska, do not forget that Belize lives of fthe USA. Thousands of Belizeans live in the USA and send money to their families back home. You probably have family in the USA. If we know these terrorists are coming into Belize, why not stop them? what does Belize gain by letting them go to the USA and create havoc? Wake up and smell the coffee, Roska.
Ignorance is a bit.. and Belize better watch closely. These guys from the Middle East come into Belize and it’s as much freedom as they will ever see, they have no respect for their own wife. Women in their country are not allow to go to school, have a drivers license or even speak when another man is around and cover from head to toe in 120 degrees temperature. They are a disgrace to the human race and certainly a bunch or terrorist.
When will our laws be revised to current situations? When thiose laws were written this drug may not even have benn developed. He may be lucky.
It’s terrible for the future generations of Belizeans that THIS GENERATION is making the Jewel into a pariah state, where law and anything else is for sale from corrupt ministers. Other than a little blood money paid to officials to welcome them into our country, what do these terrorists add to the nation, not just the Arabs but all the other scum of the earth, like the Slovak mobster?
Soon when we travel and anyone sees a Belizean passport, we will end up being rejected, or watched, or suspected. It will just be another name for “undesirable person.” Thank you, Hon. Hulse.
