Cocaine intercepted in package at northern airport
Following reports of a wet drop in San Pedro, the Gang Suppression Unit last Friday seized one kilogram of cocaine, which is equivalent to two point two pounds of the suspected drug that had been transported via Tropic Airlines to the Corozal Municipal Airstrip in Ranchito. The drug was found inside a Devon biscuit box; it had originated from the San Pedro seven-fifteen a.m. flight. The GSU carried out surveillance up until four-thirty in the afternoon, but no one picked up the parcel because it is believed that the recipient had been tipped off of the GSU presence. An employee was questioned, but released and the package was subsequently opened at the airline’s office and weighed in the presence of a Tropic representative.
The GSU also searched a number of houses, but came up empty-handed. According the unit, the package carrying the cocaine was consigned to two family members, one as the sender and the other as receiver; both live in the same house in Corozal. After questioning the persons, the GSU concluded that unknown to them, their names had been used for the operation and that they were not involved in the movement of the drug. There is also information that two weeks prior to Friday’s incident, another package was sent from San Pedro in the names of the same individuals. The airline notified them, but they responded that they were not expecting anything from San Pedro. That package, however, was picked up by another person. The suspected drug has since been sent for testing to the Forensic laboratory for official confirmation that it is cocaine.
If you send something on the plain NO ONE CAN COLLECT IT. Except the person that is send to. So, thats an inside job with the airline. We should know the family name and then we will know if they had something to do. Because it looks like every one in the comunity know all the drug dealers and thieves except the police. Or maybe they are being paid off. You need to take an i.d. Also.
thats why they should have cameras at the airport,, government should make it mandatory for all airports and airstrips.. then u will really know who it is,, and if the camera is not working government should fined them.. easy money for government but these officials done have that knowledge,, all that they like to do is argue and embarass themself in the house,,

I agree, there is no way that someone else can pick up a package without being asked for an ID. Well, atleast Maya Island Air has strict policies with regards to ID of package recipients. Tropic employees should be questions since they know exactly what is going on with these types of deliveries. Ask Mr Lex, he knows what is going on.

The police in Corozal are too busy stealing money out of the pockets of the citizens to do a good job catching the drug dealers.
