UNIBAM cautiously optimistic about case

Caleb Orozco

The church state system that many Belizeans have grown accustomed to is being challenged by the homosexual advocacy group UNIBAM. UNIBAM is challenging a portion of the criminal code that makes it a crime to have same sex relations. The church and the government are both defending section fifty three of Belize’s criminal code.  The case was called up before Justice Michelle Arana for case management earlier in the week, but it has moved to the court of Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin. News Five caught up with UNIBAM’s Caleb Orozco at an HIV conference. He says the strength of the case for his group has elevated to cautious optimism.

Caleb Orozco, Executive Director, UNIBAM

“We learned from the meeting that Justice Arana will no longer hear the case; the Chief Justice will take it over. We learned that the court granted the church lawyer, Michel Chebat an extension to May third. We consider that very late in the filing. We learnt that the Sol Gen office is given until April thirtieth to file their skeleton arguments and we learned that there will be an order where expert witnesses will now be examined and those are to be finalized shortly. Those are the basic update, but the major thing for us is the switch for which the CJ is going to take on the substantive hearing from the seventh to the tenth of May.  I’m more cautiously optimistic now than previous that’s one. Two, we are, in terms of my lawyers, they have a better vision of where they want to take the case. And three, we’re better coordinated along our interested parties in terms of strategy. And as such, the pessimism I was feeling previously has changed to one of cautious optimism.”

The Chief Justice will hear arguments on the case from the seventh to the tenth of May.

This case is a serious challenge to Belize’s sovereignty — Unibam is the front for international gay advocacy groups that have taken over much of the United Nations’ agenda, and the purpose is to FORCE same sex marriage, sex education AND HOMOSEXUAL TOLERANCE/ACCEPTANCE programs into our schools, and generally destroy the foundations of church and family here.

Why does Belize have to reject its tradition of Judeo-Christian morality and cooperation between churches and government to satisfy an anti-Biblical movement that has already corrupted the USA, and most of Europe? WHEN WE LIVE ACCORDING TO GOD’S WORD, LIFE GOES WELL — when we don’t, all Hell breaks loose, and I don’t want that for my family or my country!

FYI, I do have gay friends and even close relatives, I hate the sin and love the sinner. That’s what the Bible tells us to do. I’m not looking to stone anybody, but I know homosexual conduct is wrong, and I don’t want that message eroded or undermined in Belize.

  2. BT says:

UNIBAM is not “challenging the constitution”! Caleb is asking the court to decide if a law violates his constitutional rights.

  3. Belizean Pride says:

from around the world only 14 well develop countries have accepted same sex marriage and we’re living in a third world and we’re trying to get it onto our life style, hope not. this countries took long debates but because of politics i guess our jewel will be a disaster with this case in hand. God bless Belize.

  4. Twosweetinez says:

Why keep focusing on …… when crime is the numero uno problem that is affecting the Belizean People.Stop wasting tax-dollars on this BS and put those monies into some program to combat crimes.

  5. Buju says:

We no want that type of laws here:

Anytime i see them i get angry – my female friends keep telling me don’t worry about them leave them there – once they no bother you u no have to worry

Well now because u leave them there – they are becoming bolder!

I was so pissed off when i saw a show on TV call the NEW NORMAL
with two buttman living in a house raising kids

For the life of me – i no understand it
If u da wa gay man – then u no like women

so why on earth would you want to have a child????

What u wa teach them???? how fi tek a………….??????????????

  6. Twosweetinez says:

@BT,Nothing in the news states that Caleb is asking the court to decide if a law violates his constitutional rights.”The church state system that many Belizeans has grown accustomed to is being challanged by the homosexual advocacy group UNIBAM”

  7. Rev. Mary Martin says:

Belize has a Criminal Code 53 Chapter 101 which states, “If any person who has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any person or animal shall be liable to imprisonment for ten years”. A Belizean man who was born Gay, Caleb Orosco is the only face who dares to stand publically before the Supreme Court Justice to challenge this archaic Code.

Retribution is very real and fear is heightened as this case is on the Supreme Court Docket of the Chief Justice for May 7 – May 10, 2013. Local media and some religious leaders spread misinformation and engage in fear mongering.

Even though this Criminal Code is ambiguous, it is understood by many to protect Belizean society from Homosexuality and is called the “Homosexuality Act. An aside: Members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, and Transgender) Community may be denied entry into the country, (as well as the Hearing Impaired/ Deaf and Persons with Disabilities).

Caleb Orosco’s legal case is the section, “any person or” violates his human right to the expression of his sexual life. This Challenge requests the Government of Belize remove this phrase from the law.

Sexual expressions involving consenting adults neither for pro-creation nor in the Missionary Position are also at issue. Homosexuality is not new, is not a disease and presents no threat to society. What one chooses to believe about Homosexuality does not change the facts. On the other hand Homophobia is a dangerous mindset heaping pain and suffering on the countless innocents who live in fear. And just like Heterosexuals, not all Homosexuals practice anal sex. If you don’t like it, don’t engage in it.

  8. Twosweetinez says:

@Rev,Mary Mrtin,: Homosexuality not being new doesn’t make it right.Furthermoreit doesn’t change the fact that it’s against the teachings of the Bible.Murder is not new either,so does that make it right.I am surprised at your statement for someone who should be upholding the teachings of God.But then again i am not surprised because the Bible talks about Wolf in Sheep clothing.Who are you serving God or the Devil? You can’t serve both.

  9. Brightman says:

Well stated, Rev. Martin. Sadly, the media and many religious leaders are spreading misinformation, even resorting to scare tactics. Very often this is done to protect their own agendas and the oligarchy of the church, that still insists on controlling others with notions of hell…any organization that tries to shackle and repress others is indeed violating the rights of those individuals! That archaic and dangerous law should be done away with..kudos to Caleb for his courage in this endeavor!

  10. Initiate says:

    Amen Storm

Not sure how much more obvious it needs to become that UNIBAM is NO GOOD!

Have you ever seen a gay who lived a full life ?? They either die of AIDS or get killed by their mates! That’s the legacy most of them leave! No good, very degrading! very dehumanizing, very disgusting, very evil, very bad, very blind, very very ignorant – DEEPLY ignorant. Very sad!!

  11. Louisville,Ky says:

@ Rev Mary Martin, I noticed you took the time to quote the constitution, section this and section that. Which showed, you did some research. Despite professing to be a woman of the ‘CLOTH’ you either don’t know the biblical view of homosexuality, which makes you ignorant, or you are purposefully misleading the faithful which makes you even more reprehensible. Whatever the case, homosexuality is an abomination. Period!!
Don’t take my word for it Rev. Mary, read and see if you can understand 1 Cor. 6:9,10. then tell your church members the interpretation. You owe it to them, or put down that bible. Straight like that!

  12. ceo says:

Buju you are an ignorant fool; by your own admissions!

The government is not a church; we do not have a church State! The Catholics do but that is Rome not Belize. So they should not be arguing any case based on religeous beliefs. Those loaws were written back in the day by some old british of Anglican persuasion. Everyone have rights that are tax paying citizens of Belize. By the way Buju there are some places on this earth where people would just look at you and hate you too; so based on your thesis I guess it would be ok if they would deny you some of your human rights too!

Rev Mary you make much sense. I am not a homosexual but I understand the rights of others to live in peace.

More minors are molested by so call heterosexuals than the homosexuals you are so afraid of. So what should we do about those men that have sex with their wives “against nature”?

  13. Neville says:

I wonder what Bible Rev. Mary Martin reads in her church? Mine says homosexual acts are sins.

I did find a little info about her on the Unibam website, which underscores the ultimate agenda is to force gay marriage in Belize, so we should never be deceived by clouds of sweet words cloaking the devil.

Here is what Unibam says about Rev. Martin: “Rev Mary Martin, in is a spiritual tiger, who can reduce the loudest persons into a mere wimper. Her contribution in social movement in the United States is an untold local story. Her contribution to our efforts in Belize has been a quiet breeze, slowly, working up a spiritual storm. Rev. Mary Martin can be scene below from Free Spirit Worship Center in Grand Rapids (center) gathers at Calder plaza in 2009 with a group in favor of gay marriage. While is was an issue intensified by the Christian right in Belize, it gives us pause as a community to ask what do we want for social protection, is it gay marriage or is it simply family acceptance.”

I have a brother who became gay, after being sodomized by a middle-aged pervert at the age of 12. Is that what we want for our children in Belize?

  14. Belizean Citizen says:

We must have compassion and tolerance for all people, whether black or white, or red or yellow. Whether blind or deaf or lame. Whether male or female. All people must be offered the same human rights of security and protection, education, health care, privacy, employment, etc. They should not be descriminated for their state of being. No one chooses to be black, or white, or male or female. We are born that way, and it is our state of being.

No one is born sodomizing another human being. Sodomy is not a state of being. It is an act. A person makes a decision to commit sodomy, and it is not their human right to be permitted to sodomize another person. If our laws change, we will not only accept that sodomy is okay, but in effect we will be teaching our children that it is okay to act out any deviant impuse that comes to our mind, even sinful ones, so long as it does not hurt the person next to us. Deviant behavior hurts the whole society. This is harmful to society. So just stop thinking that sodomy is a human right, it is not. Stop thinking that our laws should permit any deviant behavior for the sake of self gratification. It should not.

  15. Buju says:

    @ceo

Thats why i am not going at the places where i am hated

There is an old saying “where bones are not provided dogs are not allowed”

by the way ceo you sound very much like wa fart smeller

  16. Seletar says:

I don’t want to follow Sodom, Gomorrah, or the USA into the cesspool of history by legalizing sinful, immoral activity.

The mighty USA cannot hold back the rush to same-sex marriage, adoption by homosexual pairs, and the destruction of decency and morality. We cannot let the camel get its nose under the tent, or soon the whole animal will be in the tent with us.

I saw an article at salon.com yesterday in which the American author used arguments similar to Rev. Martin’s, Americans must all tolerate other religions, AND THAT MEANS THEY MUST PERMIT MUSLIMS TO HAVE MANY WIVES IN AMERICA.

I say the homosexual minority must respect our majority morality, and we must not let them alter or tinker with the foundations of our churches, nation and families.

Why is tolerance and respect always a one-way proposition with the extremists of society, we accept them, but they must must be allowed to reject our ways?

  18. Bear says:

The Rev. Jerry Falwell advocated for the MORAL MAJORITY in America.

We need to recognize the same concept here, and organize it into a movement to protect our values for our children and future generations.

  19. Whappy says:

Well next thing, pedophelia, beastiality, and sex with inanimate objects wil become socially accepted next then I guess. Since they were born that way and made by God, then we should accept that sort of behavior to be socially acceptable as well? Well next thing, lets legalize prostitution and drugs too….. You give these people an inch, they will take 10 miles. Homosexuality is a MENTAL conditions. Every gay person I talk to seems to have something not quite right with them. Where did UNIBAM get all this money to hire this leal powerhouse? The answer is the good ole USA.

STOP SUPPORTING THIS GAY AGENDA. It is wrong, and teaching our kids nonsense and nastiness.

  20. Common Sense says:

    Buju – spot on brother.

Rev. Mary Martin – Please read your bible, my suggestion – starts with Genesis. What you are preaching will continue to degrade our country. ” Homosexuality is not new, is not a disease and presents no threat to society ” – do you REALLY believe what you wrote? If so, Belize is truly doomed.

As to human rights etc, you’ve studied the constitution, now study a little on the history of the United Nations and the formation (reason) for the development and implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Has nothing to do with defending homosexual behavior at all. I bet Mrs. Roosevelt is turning in her grave.

The move to protect homosexual lifestyles is a very recent thing, pushed by a very small minority with a great deal of influence, enough influence to degrade humanity’s sense of morality……and it seems you are playing your part well.

    Salams.

  21. BT says:

@Twosweetinez, correct this particular story does not say that Caleb is making challenging the constitutionality of S.53 of the Laws of Belize. Because the story is actually about how he feels with the case only weeks aways. But Channel 5 in an effort to give the story proper context introduced him as “challenging the constitution”, which was an error. As I pointed out, he is challenging the law. If you notice, Channel 5 has corrected their mistake in the online transcript.. Thank you Ch5 for that. @Twosweetinez I would suggest you try to absorb the news with less bias. It makes it easier to digest the actual facts.

  22. UNIBAM DESTROYER says:

They want to “destroy the foundations of church and family here”, in so doing we destroy ourselves, and they the rich ones live.
WE BELIEVE IN GOD, GOD SAVE BELIZE, WE ARE NOT GAY NOR L…, WE LOVE THE ORDER OF GOD TO US.
MALE AND FEMALE CREATED HE THEM !!!! SO IT BE NOW AND FOREVER !!!!
THANKS TO GOD FOR LOVING US .
“DIOS CREO AL SER HUMANO A SU IMAGEN, LO CREO A IMAGEN DE DIOS, HOMBRE Y MUJER LOS CREO …AMEN !!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Ordinary person says:

I think Rev. Mary Martin needs to get save first of all. Or maby her age is telling on her and she is now blind to know right from wrong. She can’t be from Belize! God open her eyes and minifest those words to her that she used. “Wolf in sheep clothing.” Those words goes exactly to her. We are a nation that is bless because we live by principle but we are curse when we follow the foot step of other nations. I also think that Rev. Mary needs to have a sit down talk with Madea from the movie!!

  24. Ordinary person says:

Pains my heart to know that this garbage starts up again. God Save this country and let righteouness previals. A lot of people from our country is under ground right now because of being gay and whey they die they cover up the way that they died. Man and woman= blessings. man and man and this gay thing = AIDS which leads to death!!!!
