Son of weatherman slain in Belize City

Just before the start of our newscast on Monday, a young man was executed outside the Brown Sugar Compound on North Front Street. The area was crowded with the hustle and bustle of persons who had just arrived by boat from the cayes, but was soon cordoned off as a crime scene. Dennis Rajiv Gonguez had gone to pick up a friend from the Brown Sugar Compound when he was pounced upon. The gunman stood in the area and when Gonguez exited the compound, the deadly shots were delivered on him. Duane Moody reports.

It was an execution style murder that took the life of the twenty-one year old youth as he exited the Brown Sugar Compound on North Front Street located adjacent to City Hall. The last boat from the cayes had just finished docked at the San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi. Many passengers and employees at the establishment were leaving the compound when six shots rang out. In the aftermath of the shooting, Dennis Rajiv Gonguez lay lifeless on the ground. He was walking along with Jayme Marin out of the compound when a lone gunman dressed in a white shirt, a three-quarter blue jeans pants and wearing a peak cap ran up to them, took out a firearm and fired the deadly shots. Gonguez was reportedly hit once to the face and chest. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival just at six-eleven p.m.
News Five has been reliably informed that the Belizean student of a Belize City address was lay-waited. It is said that the gunman anxiously stood across the street by St. Mary’s Church and upon seeing his target, pounced on him. While a motive has not been ascertained, police have since secured the surveillance footage from the camera affixed to a San Pedro Water Taxi sign at the entrance to the compound. Also retrieved from the scene were two Aquila brand nine millimeter expended shells, one Luger brand nine millimeter expended shell and two slugs. Police are seeking a man, known to them, in connection with this homicide. Duane Moody for News Five.

Regardless, armed assassins like that are too dangerous to arrest alive — I suggest the police track him like an animal, and if he makes the slightest suspicious move, shoot first and ask questions later. Another one bites the dust.
