Murder Trial discontinued following disclosure by jury members

The murder trial of George Street resident, Kirk Smith, who was accused of the August twenty-fifth, 2010 murder of well-known Wesley College employee, Eyan Arnold aka “Trouble” came to a sudden halt today in the Supreme Court of Justice Adolph Lucas just hours after the trial had kicked off.  That’s because two jurors, one including the foreman and another male who had been selected to hear the trial informed the court that they knew the father of the accused.  Judge Adolph Lucas Senior dismissed the twelve member jury informing Smith that in light of what just transpired, he will have to traverse his case to the next sitting of the Supreme Court.   That was not good news for Smith who has been on remand for the last two years going for three. The prosecution had already called two witnesses in the case including main witness, Antonio Pop, and Arnold’s common-law wife, Carolyn Castillo.  Arnold was gunned down on Berkley Street on August fifteenth, 2010, just a stone’s throw from the house where he grew up. In the murder trial, Smith was represented by Bryan Neal.

Whatever it takes to get a trial that will not be overturned on appeal, it’s a price we must pay, if we have to try the killer ten times.

I hope this is a case the DPP can win.

The killer should never see freedom again, until they bring his dead carcass out of the prison one day. Better still to hang him, but will that ever happen again in the Jewel?
