Father argues with granddaughter and daughter chops him
A misunderstanding among members of a Belize City family, in the wee hours of Monday morning, has resulted in charges being brought against fifty-three year old Medardo Cocom and his stepdaughter. Cocom reported to police that sometime around one o’clock he had an argument with thirty-four-year-old Chriselda Cabanas at their Custard Apple Street address, when she chopped him on the right upper shoulder with a hatchet. That incident purportedly followed an altercation between Cocom and his fourteen-year-old step-granddaughter during which he slapped her across the left side of the face. Doctors later certified his injuries as wounding and police detained Cabanas for the crime of aggravated assault and wounding. Cocom, on the other hand, has been charged for common assault after hitting the minor.
Sometimes teenagers need to be slapped. God knows I did, and I’m glad now that I had parents there to do the job.
Also, it’s a tough and thankless job to be a step-parent.
