Treaty Belize Energy Limited to proceed with oil drilling despite court ruling

Two weeks ago, Justice Oswell Legall ruled that six oil contracts were null and void. Today, there is news that Treaty Energy Corporation, the parent company of Treaty Belize Energy Limited, is proceeding with plans to continue drilling operations. In the ruling, Justice Oswell Legall invalidated the offshore oil concessions granted between May 2004 and October 2007.  The ruling, handed down on April sixteenth, nullifies contracts that were awarded to Princess Petroleum Limited and Providence Energy Belize Limited for failure to conduct an environmental impact assessment prior to exploratory work.  Despite not being named as one of the six unlawful contract holders, News Five understands that Treaty Belize Energy Limited shares a joint venture agreement with Princess Petroleum over its two hundred thousand acre onshore concession. The concession to Princess Petroleum was named in the ruling. During his quarterly press conference, which was held last week Monday in Belize City, Prime Minister Dean Barrow objected to the Justice’s ruling in strong terms saying that he went egregiously wrong. Treaty Belize Energy, in a release today following the statements by the Prime Minister and its legal counsel, says it will resume drilling activity on its San Juan three well. Princess Petroleum is represented by Barrow and Williams Law Firm. Further details on this latest development will be discussed during a press conference to be held by Oceana in Belize on Wednesday morning.

  3. m.price says:

Wow……This is scary. If drilling is not forcibly stopped by the forces which i the s sworn in to protect law/court order, it would be obvious that Barrow must go.

Image, I was happy to see the UPD replace the PUP. If Belizeans don’t find a 3rd party to elect into office, the country can consider itself finished.

UDP & PUP must go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Storm says:

@M. Price is right, they must go.

Let’s stop the criminals and thieves drilling illegally once and for all, and put their officers in jail where they belong Laws are to be obeyed, and the people who can;t obey them must be locked up. .

If these people are drilling illegally, Oceana or any Belizean has the legal, Constitutional power to arrest them.

I’d love to see the court issue warrants to arrest them for contempt of court.

  5. m.price says:

Next election, ever Belizean needs to stay home if it’s UDP vs PUP. It would be crazy to vote in the same people over and over again looking for a different result. stop voting until you have other options.

  6. ceo says:
