Celebrating teachers by giving them deserving awards

A series of activities was held this month as part of Education Showcase Week. The theme “Working Together; Stakeholders Partnering To Enhance Education In Belize.’’ set the tone for this year’s events.  On Thursday night, eight teachers were recognized for their sterling contributions in the classrooms at ceremonies at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts. Tonight we also pay tribute to the teachers for their labor of love in the shaping of the minds and hearts of our children. The outstanding teachers and school leaders for 2013 were selected from public schools around the country: Minava Castillo, Teresita Canto, Giovanni Pinelo, Silvaana Udz, Cecelia Smith, Rene Allen, Clara Sabal and Brenda Armstrong.

Sincere thanks and gratitude to those teachers, and all the many more who also excel at teaching our children but were not named here.

I think that becoming a teacher is one of the highest callings, because they form our children, and children are the future of our nation. We need more teachers who can work at the high levels of those who were recognized in this ceremony.

I am a teacher as well, and i acknowledge the hard work that the teacher being awarded are doing for their students but i believe that this is unfair to teachers all over Belize. why, because these teachers were selected ONLY from public schools. What about the school from different denomination, dosnt these teachers deserve some recognition for their hard work and dedication. Being acknowledge for doing such a hard job should be an honor but i believe that the MOE are being very unfair to teachers all over Belize. thanks

They should not ONLY AWARD them but GIVE THEM THEIR DESERVED RAISE!!!
