Man who helped youth report assault is now threatened

Eddie Pinelo

A sports instructor, employed at Nazarene Primary School, is tonight abstaining from work, following an incident during which he reportedly came to the aid of a student, who had allegedly been sodomized by a teacher.  According to San Ignacio police, thirty-six year old Eddie Pinelo, who has since been remanded to prison, was arrested and charged when a fourteen year old, in the company of his mother and coach, reported that he was sexually assaulted.  Police say that a medical examination was subsequently conducted; however, the results indicated that there were no signs of physical abuse.  Despite the fact that there was no evidence to suggest that the boy was carnally known, a directive was issued for Pinelo to be arraigned.  While Pinelo is on remand until his August fifteenth court date, the trainer, whose name has been withheld, has been receiving threats on his life.  No reports have been filed with police but News Five understands that he is being threatened for bringing the matter to the attention of the relevant authorities.

If the young boy is telling the truth, woe to those who are harrassing and threatening the teacher!!!!

Is it not a crime to threaten witnesses? Let’s see some more arrests.

I don’t know whether the teacher committed the crime or not, but he has been accused, and the force of GOB must be used to protect all the witnesses. If GOB doesn’t do that, it has no interest in justice, and no interest in Belize existing under the rule of law.

People need to stop harrassing the brave people who report crimes. This child and coach would not risk shame just for fun. I glad di police made an arrest. Now they need to arrest the people making threats. Shame on people who expect this child and the coach to stay silent. If it happen to your family you would expect justice.
