Should the families of newborns that died from infection at K.H.M.H. receive compensation?
Our previous poll asked viewers on who they thought is to be held accountable for the death of twelve newborns at the K.H.M.H. Our viewers thought by and large that it is the management, not the doctors, that should bear responsibility. To follow up on that issue that has outraged the public, tonight’s question is: Should the families of the twelve newborns, who died from a hospital based infection at K.H.M.H., receive compensation? Yes or No. Send your comments and responses using your SMART phones to 8686 or post your vote on our e-poll at channel5belize.com. i would say yes because this will be method in where by doctors will be more precarious on performing in their work even though the blame and responsibilities should be for the minister who higher irresponsible doctors who love the salary and not their work.
Why shouldn’t they?
I don’t understand the 6% of voters who said “no compensation” for the families.
From my reading on the subject after last week’s tragic story, it seems there are numerous antibiotics that could have saved the babies, and failure to diagnose the problem, failure to close the unit faster, and failure to prescribe antibiotics all combine to say “failure” by the doctors and hospital.
When doctors are allowed to bury their mistakes with no consequences, then they will keep making deadly mistakes. I say pay fair compensation, not a mere token, and have full hearings to see if nurses or doctors were negligent and should have their licenses suspended or revoked.

full and public testimony by nurses doctors and adminitration. then decide
Well for all the smarty pants blaming doctors and saying that the families should receive compensation, perhaps you should first review the cases and the events that led to each and every one of the deaths and point out where the negligence of medical care pops out. Before you say that doctors should have their licenses suspended, try getting an education in law or medicine and then make your informed comment pertaining to the complications of premature births and the available services here and in the rest of the world. Try making a comparison on health care with developed countries and under developed countries. Its quite easy to blame people for doing more than they should be doing with the resources available when you are sitting at home eating your fried chicken and rice and beans, not taking care of your health, not following medical recommendations, not taking care of your pregnancy, and increasing your health risks.
