Show me the money! Leader of Opposition says irregularities in monies paid to Vega’s nephew
And just as there were no answers as to who will be held accountable for the neonatal deaths, there are also none available to the question – why did Imer Hernandez, nephew of the Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega, receive payments from the Ministry of Works via official vouchers for the paving of the San Antonio Road, since that work was never done? Prime Minister Dean Barrow defended Vega when he was asked about the matter on Thursday. He admits to some irregularities in the issuing of payment for contracted work when that work was allegedly carried out elsewhere…but he maintains that Vega could never be involved anywhere in that mess. News Five tried to speak to Vega today, but he kept away from the media. We did get a comment on the matter from Leader of the Opposition Francis Fonseca at an event in Orange Walk earlier today.
Francis Fonseca, Leader of the Opposition
“Again it seems to be a pattern with this U.D.P. government and this prime minister. A lot of rhetoric but no answers; nothing definitive. No decision in terms of what will be done. He talks about receiving a report from the ministry and he seems to be prepared to hang out to dry a particular engineer in the ministry saying that that particular engineer signed off on the particular transaction and the change. There are proper procedures and guidelines and legal regulations that govern these matters. And he shouldn’t have to guess, he is the minister of finance; he should know that there are guidelines in place which don’t allow for anybody to get up one day and decide on their own that they want to move monies from a particular contract to another contract without them going through a proper procedure. And it was very clear listening to the Prime Minister that none of that took place. So there were illegalities involved in this matter. The deputy Prime Minister has to answer for them. I saw him running away from the media today because he doesn’t want to answer the tough questions. This happened in his community, in his area; he is responsible for what happens in his area. He has to answer them. Again the prime minister is defending the deputy prime minister putting his political interests and financial interests ahead of the national interests and we will not allow that to continue. So I am very glad that the media has been very vigilant on this issue; we will continue to be vigilant on this issue. So again I am totally disappointed with the response from the Prime Minister on this matter. We cannot sit back and wait for a report. We know that illegalities took place and he has to address it as the minister of finance.”
This pm and gov. Has to go they must all be locked up for thieving and murder.
The people needs to hold the PM responsible for all the BS that is happening in the country. Based on his last interview, the PM THINKS THAT HE IS TOO CLEVER for the average BZEAN; all he did was dance around the questions being posed to him. The MEDIA needs to hold his feet to the fire and start asking him hardball questions instead of letting him off the hook so easily. Under his watch BELIZE has become a fail state, one which now resemble the MIDDLE EAST where DEAD BODIES LITTER the streets; more BZEANS ARE LIVING IN POVERTY, while he and his cronies are raping the country. He gives out contracts to DENYS,LOISE, and many of his family members… jobs that other competent BZEANS could do, and the MEDIA JUST STAND BY while this is transpiring.
My what is wrong with this prime minister. He always cover up for Vega and don’t work about the thousands of people that knows that he goes on live television and he is just not telling the truth. He might could fool his cabinet of ministers but he cannot fool the ordinary people outta road. We Know about all his schemes and it’s just a matter of time, just a matter of time. Mister prime minister time no wait on no body three years is coming soon, soon, soon. In the blink of an eye it is coming.

What Mr Dean Barrow and his Ministers do regarding the money they take from the hard working tax payers and use for there personal gain is call embezzlement and in any country in the world it is punishable.
I agree with Fonseca. However we should not forget that his party did the samething. I think our mistake is putting these people(PUP and UDP) in power in consecutive terms.
Let’s face it, Vega is Barrow’s puppetmaster.
They both must go, the sooner the better. The future of our nation, the futures of our children, depends on it.
As for the misappropriation of these tax monies, people need to go to prison for it.
