PM tells church he won’t change gender policy

The revised Gender Policy is here to stay, even though it has caused a maelstrom of activity since the Women’s Commission had the policy document updated. Strangely, the upset has little to do with women’s affairs but rather a redefinition of words that would change the meaning of sexual identities in the policy document. The inclusion of the term sexual orientations was designed to bring acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual or transgender options into the fray. Then there was a retraction of a line that suggested to “amend existing legislation to legalize and regulate the sex work industry.” Then the Church chimed in its objection because the section called Respect for Diversity made reference to customary religious and cultural practices that must be subject to the right of equality. Church leaders were concerned that the hallmark of its religious practices, marriage, would fall victim to equal rights as defined by sexual orientations. The churches in Belmopan have a scheduled meeting with the Prime Minister on Friday, but Barrow told the media this morning that there is no way on earth that the policy is going to be withdrawn.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

Dean Barrow

“I don’t want to get into the internal affairs of the church, but this is very important. At that meeting that called for the gender policy to be withdrawn came from one person, I believe supported by two others. The majority of the participants there did not make any such call. In fact, one prominent church leader went on record as saying that he believes the gender policy is a good policy. There may be aspects of it that some people have concerns with, but on a whole, he thought it was a progressive policy, a step forward. So can we be absolutely clear about that; that the church does not speak with one voice with respect to the gender policy. I’m meeting on Friday with some of the pastors in the Belmopan. I will tell you that there is no way on earth that government is going to withdraw that policy. What that church man said is god’s own truth; it is a good policy. I have said to those that are very vocal among the church leaders in support of the call for the withdrawal; that I am prepared to accommodate submissions on particular aspects of the policy. And if we can be shown where some things are subject to misinterpretation, then we would try to clarify language. But there is no way on earth that the policy as a policy is going to be withdrawn. That is government’s decision, it is government’s prerogative. This gender policy is not law; it does not impose obligations on the churches or anyone else in the society. This is the position of the state which has the constitutional obligation of acting in a certain way towards all its citizens. I have gone over that policy again and again in consequence of the firestorm that the churches have set off and I am telling you, I am completely satisfied that it is a good policy and there is a great deal of misunderstanding.”

The Belize National Teachers Union has also sent a press release for the government to put the policy on hold because there are sections in it that could also affect the education system.

How can the PM have the ….. to say that “what the church leader said was God’s own truth?!!” Clearly he does not know anything about GOD! Well Belize & Belizeans prepare to receive all the new “blessings” we will start to receive after this….Belize is blessed however, sadly, we will start feeling the wrath of all natural disasters as does Mexico, U.S.A, etc…….Again, we got shoved down our throats any !@#$ this Gov’t wants!!

THERE IS NO WAY ON GOD`S EARTH WE ARE GOING TO STOP UNTIL THAT POLICY IS REMOVED. The only language the PM understands is a mast assembly on Belmopan. If that is what Belmopan wants that is what Belmopan will get.

God help Belize, this PM has just told God what you said about men and woman doing unnatural things with their bodies is of no concern to this government. Well Mr PM you may want to keep a pen and paper handy, mark my words on this day I make a prophesy,” you will begin to experience some great hardships in your personal life and each time adversity comes, you will know it is because of the stand you took against the word of God. These adversity will be known publicly, they will not be hidden.

  4. Brightman says:

@ Al..really? You prophesying? What stand have the millions of starving people around the world taken, that God should punish them with hunger and disease? The natural disasters that happen EVERYWHERE on a daily basis is God’s punishment too?? Sad to think that people have mindsets and belief systems stuck in primeval/medieval times in the 21st Century!! For your information EVEN christians suffer illnesses and misfortunes–get real!
Well done, PM! For once, many of us support your stance!!

Well, the Bible does say that all these things must come to pass before the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ…and that includes the persecution of the true believers…Read: Mat. 16:21; 17:22,23; Mark 8:31

@Brightman, don’t take things out of context. Go to the Bible and see what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah. Look and wee why God told Noah to build the Ark for him and his family, it was because of the disregard that the people had developed for Jehovah.

Why did the children of Israel was made to wonder around the desert for 40 years, disobedience, not following what God ask them not to do. When man knowingly disregard what God says we are not to do, he moves against it. Natural disasters are caused by nature not God. Hunger that plague man is not caused by God.

Everytime you see things like that hapenning, evaluate and see what man has done or not done to cause these things to happen. Let us not blame God for everything, man must be held accountablel for his own cause and effect. The Bible tells us that in this world we will experience tribulations (sickness, poverty, hunger etc.) but God says he will deliver us out of them all. Of course there are somethings he expects of us and that is to choose him as Lord and Savior, and walk as rightly as is possible before him.

Look around youin Belize, look at the dishonesty that exists at the top of the government and in every corner of Belize. It is a country headed for disaster. I pray for my country everyday, and I hope the people begin to earnestly pray for God’s covering, before destruction comes.

  11. Al says:

@Brightman; I am posting this for you.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

    Romans 1:24-32 (KJV)

Those are not my words, they are from what the Church believes to be the word of God by which we are to live in this world on our way to the next world. By the way the reason people do not believe in the word of God is because they think this life is it, they are so wrong. God certainly did not create us to be born, suffer and die, not the God I serve.

  12. OriginalWoman says:

Well said Al ….. The modern 21st century is upside-down. What use to be wrong is now embraced by many in power as right, and what is right is now wrong. But the truth is still the truth, even if you do not believe it and a lie is still a lie, even if you believe it to be true!!!

  13. Jorge Santos says:

Sooner than we think our PM Barrow will hear from Heaven for His decision. PM Barrow manipulated Adele and Anne-Marie. PM Barrow knows what he is doing. Mr. Luis Farrakan referred to our PM Barrow as a whore. Sell out us for cheap. Unfortunately PM Barrow pride and greed making him miserable and blind. PM Barrow heading to being Belize’s WORST leader in our history.

    Brilliant phrase

  16. emile says:

It agree, it is a remarkable phrase

  17. moses EX PC says:

And Noah was commanded to build an ark big enough for a pair of every species. Those species that he did not pair off correctly are extinct. No matter how you look at it sexual attraction to same sex individuals is an abomination, the product of the invincible hand of mutated DNA. The acceptance that homosexuality is natural is the beginning of the end by that I mean the end of humanity. It will take some time mathematically but eventually the homos will get their ultimate wishes that man will sleep with man, and woman with woman and man with beast, and wickedness will consume the earth. Hail Selassie I.

  18. brightman says:

@ Al… you’re presuming I believe in your fairy tale anecdotes…but thanks for your time…oh…Spanish Inquisition, Crusades that butchered hundreds of thousands, slavery, Witch hunts, apartheid.. were all justified using the Bible! Believe what you may, but don’t FORCE others to believe it too!

  19. MS.escobar says:

Genesis 1:27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Call to all Belizeans repent from all sins or God will destroy belize like Sodomy and Gomory.
JEREMIAH 18:8 and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned.
GoD is the center of everything. He is so powerful that no one can be like him, blessed be your name Heavinly Father
