Mexican delegation looks for markets in Belize
Representatives from fourteen Mexican companies are in Belize as part of a trade mission organized by the Trade and Investment Mexican Agency, ProMexico and the Mexican Embassy. The delegation is meeting with their Belizean counterparts in order to identify potential buyers and suppliers for their products and services, but also to identify Belizean products which could potentially find a market in Mexico. Today News Five spoke to ProMexico Director Jose Manuel Rodriguez for details on the visit and he told us that it has been a success.
Jose Manuel Rodriguez, Director, ProMexico
“ProMexico is an institution that promotes exports and attracts foreign investments. For three years already, we have been making a commercial mission to Belize in order to help countries to increase the trade and the investment in this area; particular between the countries is in the peninsula of Yucatan to Belize, but not exclusive. We are also bringing companies from the center of the country. We are organized with the help of the Mexican Embassy, Castillo company and some other names that I don’t have in my head. But yesterday we were in Belmopan and today we are in Belize City at the Institute of Mexico and we are inviting companies that want to have more information of what food products, construction companies, services, chemical product, infrastructural companies to come and have a meeting with their Mexican counterparts. They are very interested in our product and also Mexican companies are interested to see Belizean products; that they can distribute it because as you know Mexico is one of the most open economies. So Belizean products are welcomed in Mexico. We really want that the trade increases faster even though we have. Even though we have about nine point five percent increase every year, we believe that the volume could be bigger ever time.”
The delegation leaves Belize on Friday.
