Dancehall Artist, Tommy Lee, in Belize for Orange Walk Concert

Tommy Lee

From markets to the concerts, dancehall recording artist Tommy Lee is in Belize for a one-night-only performance this weekend.  The controversial singer, whose alias and subject matter has stirred much talk about his brand of music, will be performing in Orange Walk on Saturday.  Captain Sparta, as he is also known, will be throwing down a selection of popular tunes, including the regional hits ‘Some Bwai’ and ‘Psycho’.  Tommy Lee stopped by this evening to invite the Belizean public to his upcoming concert.

“The best of Tommy Lee just come out.”

Isani Cayetano

“What has it been like being in Belize so far? What has the reception from the general public been?”

Tommy Lee

“Crazy man, done know. I di go around the take pictures with the people and thing; the fans them. Big up mi fans them ina Belize.”

Isani Cayetano

“Now there is the talk about the content of your music. To some people it’s a bit controversial some of the things that you chose to sign about and what have you and it is your form of expression as an artist. What do you tell people who might be a bit fearful of coming out tomorrow night based on maybe some of the songs that you will be performing and the general location where this concert will be taking place?”

Tommy Lee

“If they scared, just stay home. But otherwise, you done know dah music mi do. Yo done know me just play my character, mi say uncle demon. Me noh really mean nothing yo see me. It is just a phase, me just do it through music. Me have to play my character cause you have Beenie Man the doctor and the man dah noh no doctor. You have Bounty the Killer, but he is not a killer. You have Ninja Man, he is not a ninja. So me dah Uncle Demon. Me dah noh real demon, but mi name Uncle Demon and my proud of it cause mi character dah Uncle Demon.”

Isani Cayetano

“What are some of the songs that you will be hitting the song with?”

Tommy Lee

“You know songs like Some Bwai, Psycho, Maniac, Money make Friend, Million Billion Trillion, Mechanic., Do your Thing, Gial Make Mi Put It In,; big madness.”

Isani Cayetano

“Now within the region, there have been some backlash with regards to the type of songs that you are performing at concerts and what have you…and from what I understand, it has sort of forced you to kinda clean up some of the lyrics and change some of the content. I notice that there is one of your songs that is for the kids and sings about Dora and all these other things. Is this a conscious effort on your part to cater to a wider audience and move away from some of the more controversial lyrics?”

Tommy Lee

“No, not really. Me jsut ah do music for everybody. You have to look out for good music from me, bad music, music for the kids. Me do music for everybody. Me ah artist and i come to entertain people ina every way.”

Isani Cayetano

“What would you tell the Belizean public to come out tomorrow to witness Tommy lee in concert in Orange Walk? What would you say to draw them out?”

Tommy Lee

“Well you know, just forward. Actions speak louder than words. But done know me wah give them a nice hour performance, hour and a half and make the people them feel the rage and energy, you know.”

Tickets for the Tommy Lee concert are currently on sale in Belize City and Orange Walk Town.
