Belizean student killed in accident in Taiwan

Clarencio Coc

A Belizean studying in Taiwan has passed away. Clarencio Coc has been studying Plant Health at the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology in southern Taiwan since 2010. According to students at the school, scooters are a regular means of transportation in that part of the country. Coc and a student from Guatemala, Mervin Hernandez, were on the scooter approaching the school gate. But near the intersection to the school, a vehicle crashed into the students. One student said, “Mervin was crushed by the scooter and Clarencio flew into the ditch…it was raining so the water was heavy-it washed him down stream. We spent some time trying to find the body.” The details are sketchy; however, News Five spoke to David Wu, the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) about the incident.

David Wu

“This morning at about eleven o’clock, we got message from Taiwan. There were two students both of them are scholarship recipients—one’s nationality is from Belize and another one is from Guatemala. Both of them rode together on a motor bike and that motorbike had a car accident very serious. The Guatemalan student actually passed away immediately and the Belizean student was sent to the hospital and though the ICU treatment was given to him, he passed away a few hours later. Because now in Taiwan it is midnight, it is very difficult to get more details. Actually, both our ministry, your ministry and here in Belize your foreign ministry…all three of us were together trying to contact his family. He was the scholarship recipient of year 2010 and he went to study in Pintung University in southern Taiwan. His major was tropical agriculture for Central America. So we do regret this kind of accident happening.”

News Five has not been able to verify when Coc’s body will be returned to Belize.

This happens because of our own corrupt pm and gov who the thief all the people’s monies and we cannot afford to build adequate universities in this country and faber have the nerve to blame the teachers and parents instead of blaming his incompetence on himself and this corrupt pm and gov. Well I hope the killer of these two students gets justice we need to hold these people responsible also.

    Dear New 5,
I must say that i am glad to see that the content in your news is accurate, Unlike other News who’s story was quite the opposite. I was enraged to find out that the other news was stating that the students on the motor cycle were the ones that collided into the car when in fact, it was the driver of the car that hit the students. In the link below, is the true story of what happened. As you can see, the driver of the car tried to over take another car near a curve but sadly he hit the students. Please look at this carefully and post it in your news cast. I believe that Belizeans have the right to know the true story. The news is in mandarin chinese but there is a demonstration of the incident so you can understand what actually happened.
