Mike Menjivar’s home shootout with GSU in court

Mike Menjivar

The trial of attempted murder against Mike Menjivar continues in the Belmopan Supreme Court. Menjivar’s house was raided in May 2011 by the Gang Suppression Unit; the raid started before five in the morning and concluded in the evening after five o’clock. Menjivar’s house was riddled by gunfire, and while there was no incriminating evidence found, there was a shootout between Menjivar and the GSU which led to the charges against him. His wife and housekeeper were also arrested and spent a month in prison before their release, but only Menjivar has been indicted. In the trial for which there is no jury, nine witnesses have given testimony so far and more are expected to so do. It is unlikely, however, that the Head of the GSU, Marco Vidal will testify. This Tuesday, the prosecution will introduce the GSU’s video of the predawn raid which involved two teams of the Unit. The defence is expected to open its arguments on Wednesday and the case is expected to close on Friday. Prosecutors are Therese Schmidt and Leroy Banner.

GSU need some courses in best practces. I bet if they had gone during the day they might have had better results. They could have staked out the house and go during the day when no shooting have to happen cause the man up and working in his bar next door. I sure the warrant could have been issued for house plus bar. Now they shoot up the house and maybe what they were searching for was in the bar. I just hope they no go shoot up the place when customers in there.
