Man who killed mother-in-law sentenced for manslaughter
A man who killed his mother-in-law was today sentenced to eighteen years by Justice Adolph Lucas. Peter King Contreras was not charged for murder after he strangled Argentina Garcia in December, 2010, but instead pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. On December fourteenth Police intercepted Contreras at the junction of the Philip Goldson International Airport road and the Northern Highway at about three am, and when they searched the vehicle they found the body of a woman later identified as his mother-in-law, fifty-year old Argentina Garcia. Contreras told Police that he had driven around with the woman in the trunk all day after he knocked her down in a traffic accident, but he later confessed to strangling her with a rope he had in his vehicle after he punched her twice in the face. Contreras, who was living with Garcia’s daughter Leslie, never denied his guilt, but the prosecutor claims that they had little evidence to convict him of murder and that is why he was allowed to plead guilty to manslaughter. Contreras, who has been behind bars for two and a half years, will only have to serve fifteen and a half years of the eighteen which was his sentence. And in an update to a court story aired on Tuesday, the man acquitted of murder is Lincoln Sabido, not Anthony Sabido.
