Minister Mark King off the hook, but Police Officer in big trouble for not proceeding with case

Allen Whylie

There is an astonishing turn of events to report tonight following the charges that were dropped against Minister of State with Responsibility for Gangs, Mark King. The charges of Aggravated Assault, Threatening Words and Disorderly Conduct which were levied against King after a brawl outside a casino in Corozal were dismissed by Magistrate Clive Lino after police officer Nelson Ramos refused to proceed with the case. But while King was in the clear, Police Commissioner Allen Whylie was irate about what he called a betrayal of the public trust.

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“It is my view that that officer was a police officer when this incident occurred. He was not an ordinary citizen and he had no authority to withdraw that case or refuse to testify. It is a matter that I view very seriously and as soon as the investigation is concluded, we will take the appropriate action against him.”

Mr. Nelson Ramos NEED to go to police school. Maybe get some psychological help. He has a long history of police harrasment. Please dont send him to another district just remove him a bad apple will spoil the good ones. There are good police and bad police and Mr Ramos is a very bad one.

  5. Corozaleño says:

    Hey PC Ramos !

    You ever heard about Karma.

Well your hoodlum and thug ways have caught up to you now.

The people of Corozal who have been victimized and robbed by you are laughing in your face.

  6. Gone fishing says:

    no authority to back down?

Ramos might not be much of a man, but he can see the top people controlling GOB are about to crush him if he did not fold.

Considering those cops who were involved with the big coke bust in Toledo got off, Minister King was going to get off which ever way.

The justice system of Belize is a plaything of the powerful.

Ramos sticking to his testimony meant he was a marked man, expendable if he went through with it.

  7. ceo says:

It is not that what he did was so “bad” he is just a cop they wanted to get rid of anyway and the oppertunity presented itself. Clive Lino is also just a flunky.

  8. Jackie says:

About time- I hope he can keep it up! I know that he may have the best interest at heart but do not be surprised if a higher minister comes down and knocks on his door. Corruption is so common with this Govnt..they should be so ashamed but we have them laughing like silly

  9. only in BZE says:

  10. ratty says:

  11. RGW says:

Lets hope to commissioner is not saying these words for the camera. Time to make an example out of this so call police officer.

  12. Al says:

There is absolutely no one to hold government officials in contempt of the law. Where is the PM on this, is he okay with officials dissing the law. It looks to me like the people of “Belize have become so comfortable with being treated like idiots that they see nothing, hear nothing and care about nothing.
I would like to know how much money passed from hand to hand and what promises were made, or maybe the cop is afraid that King will send gangs to take him out. In Belize today anything is possible.
