BMDU supports PAHO report recommendations for K.H.M.H.
The Pan American Health Organization’s report on the bacterial outbreak in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital has laid out pages of inefficiencies and areas where the nation’s referral hospital can improve. The Belize Medical and Dental Union (B.M.D.U.) is now sharing its views on the K.H.M.H. According to the release, the B.M.D.U. views the participation of PAHO in the investigation as a positive move by the administration. The hospital’s union accepts all the recommendations and hopes that those recommendations will be implemented. The union members also sympathize with all the families that have been devastated by the events that have occurred, and (Quote) “pray that with time God will heal their wounds as only He can do.” (Unquote) The B.M.D.U. is aware of the financial limitations of the K.H.M.H. and as a result (Quote) “the alterations in established protocols when it comes especially to medication use.” (Unquote) However, the B.M.D.U. says that isn’t an excuse since the hospital is to provide the best possible health care to any citizen of Belize, especially those most vulnerable and most in need of appropriate care.
