Cable Technician Guilty of Carnal Knowledge

The trial of a Belize City cable technician who is accused of sexually abusing a young woman since the age of nine concluded today.  At eleven thirty this morning, the nine member jury of five men and four women stepped into the deliberating room to decide whether or not Niccanor Fermin was guilty of six counts of carnal knowledge. Less than three hours later, they returned a verdict of guilty on all six counts.  Forty-one year old Fermin will hear his fate on August ninth in the court of Justice Troadio Gonzalez.   The young girl, who is now eighteen, took the witness stand and told the court that on six occasions between 2004 and 2010, Fermin had sexual intercourse with her. She also walked the jury through the difference encounters saying the first happened one night when Fermin had sent her brother to buy. There were other instances at different times at her house and once at his workplace until the child reported the incident to her mother. In his defence, Fermin denied the allegations saying it wasn’t him, but another man who had violated the girl.   Prosecutor Leeroy Banner called four witnesses to testify while Fermin called two witnesses including his wife and daughter.
