Woman’s teary goodbye after being busted for drugs and ammo
The court was also the setting of an emotional farewell. A Belize City woman today made the public outcry after she was remanded on firearm charges. Thirty-nine year old Carolee Jean Rhaburn appeared today before Magistrate Leslie Hamilton and was charged for one count of drug trafficking, one count of keeping an unlicensed firearm and one count of keeping unlicensed ammunition. According to Police, on Friday night Rhaburn was walking on George Street when they stopped her and conducted a search. In a purse she was carrying, they found seventy-two grams of cannabis. That was bad enough, but a further search in a shoe-box she was carrying resulted in the discovery of a point thirty-eight caliber revolver and three live rounds of ammunition. Rhaburn pleaded not guilty to the charges but because of the firearm offences she was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. She has the right to apply for bail at the Supreme Court, and is scheduled to reappear in court on September twenty-fourth, 2013.
