Third annual Back-to-School Drive; get free grooming at Fabers Road
The third annual Back-To-School Drive, organized by Brian Dena, a community activist of the Fabers Road area, kicks off this Friday. But Dena is wasting no time in appealing to the Belizean public to give freely in assisting primary school students to prepare themselves for the upcoming school year. For his part, Dena is leading a two-day haircut and braiding campaign that will cater to approximately two hundred underprivileged boys and girls in Belize City. This afternoon, he stopped by to invite your participation in making this year’s drive a success.
Brian Dena, Organizer, Back-To-School Drive
“This weekend we’re hosting the third annual Back-To-School Trimming Drive which will be held on the thirtieth and the thirty-first, this Friday and Saturday. The time will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 in the evening.”
Isani Cayetano
“Talk to us a bit about the number of kids you’re catering to this time around.”
Brian Dena
“We’re trying to beat one hundred and fifty-seven which was our previous amount. So we are trying to aim at least for two hundred this year.”
Isani Cayetano
“And what are you looking for in terms of assistance from the general public?
Brian Dena
“For assistance, well, school supplies and if anybody has any shoes or anything, you can come out and donate something.”
Isani Cayetano: Make an appeal to the public as to why they should be a part of this effort seeing as though there are other efforts to get children prepared for the upcoming semester.
Brian Dena
“Well, I have noticed in the community there are so many kids that need help and we went around and checked and we found out that they are very much in need and these kids are going back to school. So, if anybody can support us still they can contact me at 637-5728, that’s Brian and Edmund is 631-7303.”
So if you want to look smart for your first day of classes, head out to Fabers Road for a haircut.
Keep up the good work Mr. Dena! We need more community organizers like you in every neighborhood. Big up!!
