Jaguars bestowed with Gilmore Henkson trophy
Goleador Woodrow West and midfielder Ian Gaynair, star players on the Belize Jaguars, were today bestowed with the Gilmore Henkson Fair Play Trophy for their honesty and patriotism during their participation in CONCACAF’s Gold Cup 2013. The pair blew the whistle on a potential match fixer, who offered them thousands of Euros to throw their inaugural match against the United States in Portland, Oregon. Their character, according to a release from the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association, exemplifies the aims and objectives of the International Olympic Committee. Presenting them with the award was Governor General, Sir Colville Young.
Sir Colville Young, Governor General of Belize
“We did not win but we excelled in sportsmanship and even if we did not win I want to remind you that every evening the sun goes down but the next morning it rises again.
The Gilmore Henkson Trophy was established some years ago by the Belize Olympic Committee in memory of Gilmore Henkson.
So wish ALL of our Ministers could be bestowed with Gilmore Henkson trophy, for not stealing the countries money. You guys are a model and we hope good things happen for you guys. You made history at home and abroad. Congratulations!
You guys did your best, win or loose when you do your best people admire and respect you. Iam proud of all of you.
