It’s the convention season and new faces are popping up in the GOP

The opposition, People’s United Party, has announced that it will be holding conventions for candidates interested in contesting the upcoming elections. Already in Cayo Central and Belmopan, the field is getting crowded with new faces popping up. Today, Alburn Rivero Senior, who hails from Double Head Cabbage, dropped by our studios to say that he will be contesting the convention in the Belize Rural North.  Rivero Senior will be taking on Attorney, Arthur Saldivar, who is the standard bearer for that constituency and who was beaten at the last general election by Edmund “Clear the land” Castro. It is still early to tell if others will announce their bid, but Rivero Senior believes that his experience in working with the residents in the Belize River Valley sets him apart.

“I believe that the people of Belize rural North need a true leader, a true representation, in Belmopan and that this time around, we need to show the people that we in the People’s United Party believe that we are ready to govern and we are ready to bring to them a positive and real development and that we have what it takes. And this is why I am entering this race because I believe that my candidacy and my being in this will be for the betterment of our people. Belize Rural North at this present time is neglected and we need a lot. But what I first want to with my people is to join with them and to unite with them and to let them know that this is not just my show; it will be for them. We have a lot to accomplish, but together we have to do that and we have to look at how we can create jobs.  How can we create the opportunity for farmers to do their crop and export and to find ways for our people to be better off this way by offering them the potential and to have the knowledge how to create these jobs. It is not promises. It is together we will have to look at jobs and healthcare and better schools and education for all. This is what I am running for. This is what I believe that we in Belize Rural North is not getting.”

“Definitely. I have full respect for all my colleagues in the People’s United Party and respect to Mister Saldivar, but the People’s United Party needs a candidate that can win Belize Rural North and this is why I am running. This is not because of anyone that wants to submit their name. It is the belief that I have that with my candidacy and my hard work and the knowledge that I have working along with my people and engaging with them throughout my time playing cricket and involving myself as I grew up in Double Head Cabbage in all my lifetime. I definitely know that I am ready to bring a better life to the people and development to people of Belize Rural North.”
