Pageant Controversy: duly elected Miss Independence Succotz snatches crown

In the west, the Independence Day activities were not without its own share of controversy. In San Jose Succotz, the installation of Miss Independence is a big affair. But this year, it had a twist. The story is that Yancy Bautista was duly elected as Miss Independence, but Bautista did not want to wear the red dress provided to her by the organizers of the pageant because a white dress is traditionally donned for the occasion. So on Saturday evening she headed to the festivities dressed in shorts and a casual top. A video that has gone viral captures Bautista as she dutifully stood beside her runner up, Princessa Coc, who was being crowned by Minister Erwin Contreras. Not too happy that someone else was stepping in her shoe, an enraged Bautista yanked and disposed of the crown from the newly crowned queen.

Yancy’s message is loud and clear! NO POLITICS SHOULD BE INVOLVED! Also where did the money for the dress end? Ask the organizer who is from Benque Viejo! Minister Contreras has to learn a lesson from this! Yancy is a brave girl who stood up for her rights. She worked hard for the crown.

  2. Belizean Pride says:

I agree with you Belizean no politics should be involved in this Independence Celebration it’s a nations thing not a party thing but it seems that this ministers don’t get it clear. We should celebrate together not divided as parties.

  3. Buju says:

    LOL!

I cant believe some of the things we report in the news…..

You people need to get a life………….

What is brave about making a fool of yourself to the nation – it is obvious she did not want to be crowned and by her actions she definately did not deserve to be a queen!

  4. Nissa says:

OHHHh com on… that young lady is totally out of order….com on no one is playing politics just because of a red dress….that young lady is not a perfect example to other young ladies. you dont solve a problem by stashing the crown how ridiculous that can be of her..shame on her…she dont even deserve the crown after her behaviour.

  5. eagle eye says:

  6. sickntired says:

Aye lawd ah nearly pee miself di read dis. Di poor child very correct to be vex. Weh kinda horey red dress de wah put pon dem poor girls. If de cant do a proper pagent den no have none. Kudos for dis girl to stand up to dem simple organizers.

  7. succotzeño says:

Only because they bought a red dress does not in any way means it was political. Yes the guy that organized the pageant was from Benque. Atleast he volunteered to do it. We are quick to judge put no one from Succotz took up the challenge. It was totally wrong was Miss Yancy did, we need to learn to control ourselves. All of us have gotten angry at some point in time, but if we all acted in the same manner what kind of society we would be living in?

  8. Contrerass wants the crown says:

If it has to do with Erwin, it is definitely screwed up.
would not surprise me he ends up a day later with the crown.

  9. macal rivera says:

YANCY BAUTISTA MAKE A FOOL OF HERSELF FOREVER, THE BEST SHE COULD HAVE DONE WAS TO GO THE MEDIA AND EXPRESS HOW SHE FELT ABOUT THE PAGEANT AND POLITIC, BUT GRABBING A CROWN LIKE IF SHE IS SOOO PUCH!!! MADAS THAT MAKE SHE A LOW CLASS YOUNG PESON.

PEOPLE DI MAKE SHE MAKE A FOOL OF HERSELF, AND SHE IS VERY WRONG IN SAYING THE VILLAGE IS WITH BEHIND HER!!!! YOU ARE LYING YANCY, WE THE VILLAGERS WOULD NEVER ENCOURAGE YOU TO SUCH BEHAVIOUR UNBECOMING OF A DECENT YOUNG LADY.

    YOU FOOL YOURSELF YANCY!!!!!

  10. patriotism says:

Where is the patriotism in all of this. Red, White and Blue are the September colors. I do not associate those colors with politics in September. I hope more people think like this. A message to Yancy….be careful what you post on social media…everyone can read it…people can repost. Some of the language you use is not the language a true queen should embrace. Best of luck to you…

  11. looking says:

There is no black or white people in Belize. Only Blue or Red. We are out of white material. Bad decision queen Bautista.

  12. concerned belizean says:

The message is loud and clear. Keep politics out of it, Independence is not a politics thing its patriotic we should all respect it. Government officials need to know that. stop making everything political.
