Elrington says his secretary has been transferred from ministry following passport incident

Wilfred Elrington

Minister Elrington says that despite his secretary not having any involvement in the sale or facilitation of Belizean visas, direct measures were taken to transfer her from Foreign Affairs.  The ministry, he says, has a strict policy against any allegations of misconduct.

“Very recently or sometime ago, there was an incident involving the sibling of your former secretary. If I am not mistaken it had to do with passports or documents that we found in his possession. Can you speak on that particular incident as far as your office is concerned?”

Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs

“That information was brought to my attention. It was brought to my attention that one Murga was detained in Cuba in relation to some passports. We have received no information up to this point in time that my secretary had anything to do with it. No information, no evidence, no allegation and no suggestion. However given the atmosphere that presently prevails in relation to these matters, I think steps were taken to remove her from the ministry and I think she has been transferred to another ministry. I thought that she was dismissed. It wasn’t something that I was following, but she is no longer in the ministry. But there was absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing on her part furnished to me or anyone as far as I know in the ministry of foreign affairs. I think it was just out of an abundance of caution that we may have removed her from the ministry. I can tell you that it is not usual for us when we get into any suggestion of impropriety to move people who are in our ministry from one post to the other. We have kinda zero tolerance for any suggestion of wrongdoing so we act with alacrity when things like that happen.”

The minister also said that he was directed to fire a driver from the ministry, but as far as we know that has not taken place.

  1. Concern says:

Elrington said in July in response to passport trafficking; “Our concern was whether in fact they were moving with visas that were not valid. That was not the case the visas were properly issued by the director of immigration and they were all valid. Absolutely no corruption in immigration and to the persons who were taking the passports.”

Absolutely no corruption, everything valid. They knew about the passport scandal ring from back then, but it was white washed and placed under the rug. It’s that easy when the big boys gat U back! Yes we know that people send their passport to Mexico for visa, but this is not by special courier, it’s by mail. Special couriers are paid handsomely and the visa is bought at an exorbitant price, not the legal amount everyone else pay. Should we say $10,000.00! Does this legality ring a bell?

  2. Guerra says:

Wow……$20,000.00 for those visas MADE THEM VERY VALID! : ) NO CORRUPTION THERE! Yet for no corruption Ms. Murga was swiftly moved from foreign affairs to hide the track! That’s Kwool!

  3. Citizen says:

Ms. Murga was transferred for not being involve in brother hustling, or release. Why should she pay for what her brother was doing? Doesn’t sound fair…right!

  4. likeaboss says:

C-Glue II is starting to talk like Dean now. If there’s no evidence of wrongdoing, then why was Miss Murga fired from the Ministry? If she is innocent, wouldn’t it be grossly unfair to punish her and wouldn’t it also be unconscionable to carry on with business with nary a glance back at her in the gutter as it were? What about all the time you and she spent together and the times she stayed late at the office busting her rump for you and the ministry? I don’t think you’re being truthful. There was something else. Can anyone in this government be truthful for one whole day? I bet even in your dreams you lie to the public.

  5. Angel says:

You’re so Artificial Wilfred, ready to repeat anything that you think might sound good to your masters. That’s what gets you in trouble every time, repeating other people’s words. Murga wasn’t fired of course, she knows too much and might spill the beans on the whole trade if the bread is taken out of her mouth. So what does your UDP Government do to make to shut her up…..transfer her to another Ministry or send her to another country for treatment…..Just like Penner!

  6. Al Rich says:

Something smells so bad in this country, these ministers are now coming forward to cleanse themselves of any stench that maybe on them. There is one big nasty coverup going on in this whole nasty mess and there is not enough toilet paper to clean this government’s crop up.

  7. Elgin Martinez says:

Kinda zero tolerance for any suggestion of wrong doing is an ambigious answer.Come on Mr. Sedi.

  8. Al says:

With no evidence they fire or transfer one of the lowly public officers, but when it comes to the “honorable” ones, with a planeful of evidence, they burn those evidence and send them on vacation in Guatemala, till the lee breeze blow over.
