53 year old man charged for indecent assault of 15 year old

A fifty-three year old man is in trouble after a fifteen year old minor claimed that he rubbed his right hand down her breast last week Friday. When Medardo Cocom appeared before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith, he was slapped with one count of Indecent Assault and forced to leave the confines of his neighbor due to the close proximity of the alleged young victim. According to the minor, Cocom “rubbed his right hand down her breast.” An unrepresented Cocom pleaded not guilty to the offense. While there was no objection to bail, court prosecutor, Sergeant Egbert Castillo, was concerned about the close proximity of Cocom to his alleged victim and he was ordered to relocate from the south side neighborhood. Cocom was additionally ordered to report every Monday to the Queen Street Police Station and he is to stay away from the minor. Bail was offered in the sum of one thousand dollars plus one surety of the same amount.
Apparently there’s a presumption of guilt in Belize where sexual misconduct allegations are concerned. Maybe that’s why Colin bh ‘went off’ in his most recent column. Not saying he was right, but he was pushed. At the current trend, in fifteen years if you stare at a girl’s chest for ten seconds straight or longer, you will be committing sexual assault and hauled in to stand tall before the man. Do magistrates and police sergeants read? I mean, on their downtime, do they pick up anything other than the local yellow garbage?
I bet you if Mr. Medardo Cocom was a rich merchant these charges wouldn’t see the light of day. I bet you all the skeletons in the closet of the BPD that Mr. Cocom momentarily lost his footing, and, hoping to support his weight onto the nearest vertical entity, inadvertently made contact with the fringes of someone’s pectoral areas, someone who’s been properly indoctrinated. In this world the poor people get the double whammy… all the time!
