20 year old mother of 2 imprisoned for being a prohibited immigrant

Laudi Ortega

A Guatemalan woman who has been living in Belize for over six years and is the common-law-wife of a Cayo resident has been given her ticket to leave the country. The deportation order means that she will be leaving behind her two children who were born in the jewel. Twenty year old Laudi Ortega was ordered to leave the country after Immigration officials made an application to have her deported after she pleaded guilty to being a prohibited immigrant. The house of Ortega’s common-law-husband in the Arenal area of Cayo was raided by the Gang Suppression Unit over the past weekend when they searched for drugs. Ortega was at home at the time and was handed over to Immigration officials when she was unable to produce any documents to show her status in Belize.  While her husband remains in police custody, Ortega was charged with the offense of being a prohibited immigrant. She appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dale Cayetano and pleaded guilty to the charge. An emotional Ortega was fined one thousand dollars which she could not pay so she was escorted to prison this afternoon to start a six-month prison term and will be deported after serving her sentenced.

She and her husband are in jail…two young kids left to fend for themselves (if you are thinking the country run institutions will take care of them….you damn silly rabbit, trix are for kids() so instead of this woman taking care of her kids at her expense, now the state has to feed her in prison, feed her kids in the institution – did we really just win? did we?

THIS IS INCREDIBLE… SHE HAS TWO BELIZEAN CHILDREN AND A BELIZEAN HUSBAND AND THIS IS WHAT WE DO. THESE INMMIGRATION OFFICERS FEEL SO HIGH AND MIGHTY AND I BET IT HAPPENED BECAUSE THIS COUPLE DID NOT HAVE MONEY FOR THE BRIBE..THERE NEEDS TO BE A PROCESS AND INMIGRATION LAW THAT MAKES SENSE FOR THESE KIND OF SITUATIONS AND NOT SEPERATE A MOTHER FROM HER BELIZEAN CHILDREN..

  3. Al says:

Seriously. This is the shit. Are you kidding me???????? Then again, why didn’t he marry the girl? He illegal too? But still, it just shows the double standard gap. And how seriously wide the gap is. Like a chasm.

This is so dam sad she is a Mother of two Belizean and wife why the hell is she deported ? They should give her an opportunity to apply for her papers as for been a mother of Belizean children , they should give tickets to immigrants who are in Belize to commit harm!! I am very disappointed the way the Government is right My Family are UDP and I was raised to believe In The UDP but at this Point am very Not in the Favor Of them as the way they are running things in Belize !! This is just plain ridiculous!!! I am so proud to be a Belizean and say I am from Belize but when my friends aboard Google to see what our country is about I am embarrassed for them to see the corruption that’s going on !! Please get your s#%^* straight !!!

    ANGRY BELIZEAN!!!!!!!

  5. ceo says:

Is she merely an illegal immigrant or “prohibited” in this case means “persona nongrata”. Dad is in prison and mom is deported and the kids? Do you really expect them to become upsatnding citizens after being forcibly abandoned? If she has not committed any serious crimes what are we hoping to accomplish by this move?

  6. Belizean Pride says:

the whole thing here is that these scum i’m talking about the immigration people now are playing rough with this lady yah because we the Belizean people are finally seeing their dirty things that they do, poor lady can’t afford to pay the bride like the asians so let’s kick her around, what a bunch of morons are they, damn!! let this lady go and get her help to apply her nationality since she has two kids Belizeans by birth and hopefully the husband is a Belizeans she definitely qualifies for a nationality.

  7. Belize land of the free says:

free this lady now, her kids need her. It is a sad situation, as a citizen of Belize, I am ashamed
of what our government is doing to her children. This is where PM need to put his mouth and show that he cares for the future of our nation, the children of today.
Lets not be like the USA who separates the children and parents and left the kids to suffer, the denial of there parents, that is not the way we want Belize to be.

I am willing to buy her a Belize Passport, any immigration officer want to make some money????

  8. history minded says:

An ngo should have stepped it and pay the fine for her!!!!

    We are all immigrants!

  9. monica says:

It is sad for the kids, but as any illegal person in another country, just having kids born doesn’t give you automatic citizenship or resident to the parent. This is what the US is doing, don’t compare passport scandal with this situation.
