Will there be a senate-led investigation into the Ministry of Immigration?
Still on the immigration matters….Following up on notice from the floor of the Senate on October seventeenth, the Opposition Senator, Liza Shoman will be moving a motion at the next sitting of the senate calling for the appointment of a Special Select Committee of the Senate. At the time, irregularities were disclosed in the issuance of a nationality certificate and passport to Wonhong Kim recommended by the former minister of state Elvin Penner. The motion is for an investigation into the processes in the issuance of nationality certificates, passports as well as visas in the Ministry of Immigration. As it relates to the current proposed investigation, the motion is for the committee to look into the “irregularities and impropriates and any wrongdoing, mismanagement or corruption in the issuance of the Belizean nationality certificates, passports as well and visas.” The motion calls for the attendance before the Committee of the Director of Immigration as well as public officers and other persons involved in the issuance of the documents. The composition of the committee calls for one senator from the government, one from the opposition and three from the social partners. The Opposition has already said that it is getting support for the senate-led investigation. The last senate investigation was back in 2006 when it looked into loans provided by the Social Security Board.
Who knows?
By the time they figure this out, all the evidence will be destroyed.
By the time they call hearings the country will forget, and will be ready to be screwed again.
