The chilling and telling video of the shake down of a young man by police

Tonight, there is chilling and telling video of the shake down of a young man by the police. The incident happened on the night of September eighth when Tyrell Hyde was parked in his car near the Buttonwood Bay Park along with three other friends. The group was approached by police officers who searched them and the vehicle. The police found an envelope containing a large sum of money in the glove compartment and his Atlantic Bank ATM card and here is when the police got brazen. They took the cash and then transported Hyde and his friends to the Bank’s ATM on Freetown Road and there they forced him to disclose his pin number which they then used to withdraw a sum of money. All this was caught on the bank’s surveillance camera. Hyde has made a complaint to the office of the Ombudsman and to the Minister of National Security, but there has been no action. According to a relative of Hyde, he was asked to refrain from going to the media with the story and that the monies would have been returned. But this has also not happened. Here’s what Hyde told News Five.

Tyrell Hyde, Claims Police Stole Money from him

Tyrell Hyde

“They said that they wanted to search the car. So they ordered the two females to stand at the back of the car and then they searched the two males—as in me and my friend. They took out our belongings from my pocket; they took out my phone, my keys, my money and I noticed one of the officers placed my money separate from the other items in his pocket. And then they searched my friend; they took out his phone and his keys. And then two other officers, they searched the car. One searched on the driver’s hand side and the other on the passenger hand side. And then when they almost finished their searched, my glove compartment was locked. So the officer asked for me to open my glove compartment. When I opened the glove compartment, I had a manila envelope in there that had all contracts that I signed and everything for my business in there along with three thousand five hundred dollars that we were supposed to use to print for expo because expo was the following weekend. And so the officer held on to that and he continued search the car. And then the other officer said what, we find an ATM card; who name Tyrell Hyde. So then another officer said, oh this dah the rich guy Hyde weh just dead. So then the officer said, weh yo think we shoulda do? Ker ahn dah the ATM? And then with that he just say you, jump in. you you go weith ahn. And then dehn put me ina my backseat and they drive me to the Atlantic Bank ATM by Freetown. And the officer had my card, he gone inside open the door. All through this, they had me in there. He never allowed me to touch the machine any at all; he demanded that I give he my pin number. And he just did a balance inquiry and from there he just say that he wah take out two hundred and sixty and he take out an additional two hundred and sixty. They put me back ina my backseat, dehn come and drive right long back Coney Drive and then they took us down a dark street weh deh right beside Belize Chamber of Commerce, you know BERT—the street goes down to gravel and then round the curve to the mangrove. And ina di dark dah then they let me go and so in all this whole thing cost me…because the officer took the cash I had on me, seventy dollars; plus on top taking me to the ATM and then the whole envelope that had the money that was supposed to be used for printing…gone. Three thousand eight hundred and thirty dollars to be exact.”

This is the type of behavior you will get from those that have sworn to serve and protect, when they see their Bosses involved in all kinds of corruption.
Just chancey, facey and outright ‘thief’.

One question though, what took the victim so long to report this matter? Things like these need to be brought to the fore asap!!
Lets see how Mister Man deals with this one.

If these officers are found anything less than guilty then:
    1. i am going to be disappointed in john saldiver – i have supported you but if this goes through, that support is gone.

    2. i will personally put up $2000 to have the face of the officers placed on a billboard in Belize City so others can see who these pathetic excuse for officers are

Last, but not least, don’t be surprised if Hyde mysteriously ends up with a charge of “kept ammunition” or “possession of weed” – they will tell him to drop the charges and they will forget what they found so he can walk.

  3. Bzean says:

This kid is a scam artist and a thief. Be Weary of his stories. He has been in trouble with the law before

  4. MissP says:

@Bzean- the video alone of the police officers with him at the ATM speaks volume and I’m sure his Bank transactions at the said time can back up what was withdrawn from his account, moreover it’s not his actions that are being questioned here.

  5. Victim of Hyde says:

As Bzean says, this kid is no victim. He has been in numerous reported vehicle thefts and burgularies and is still walking around the streets of Belize. Just search previous Belize news for “Tyrel Hyde”

  6. LadyG says:

@Bzean you must be one of the pathetic thieving police. The extortionist and accomplices should all loose their job camera doesn’t lie and even if he is that that doesn’t justify that low down action. Fired all and see how the $ 3800 will feed you and the rest of those thieves.
