Saldivar says he hasn’t seen video of the cop’s shakedown of Tyrell Hyde
On September eight, an evening of hanging out with friends quickly turned into an ugly experience that twenty-year-old Tyrell Hyde won’t soon forget. As it turns out, Hyde was extorted of a significant amount of cash by policemen on mobile patrol in the area of Buttonwood Bay. The officers, upon obtaining under duress an envelope containing three thousand, five hundred dollars from the glove compartment of Hyde’s vehicle, forced him to Atlantic Bank on Freetown Road. There, they took him to the ATM and, with banking information coerced from him, withdrew an additional sum of money from Hyde’s account. In total, the young man alleges to have been squeezed out of approximately three thousand, eight hundred dollars. All this was caught on surveillance video showing the police officer withdrawing and handing over the receipt to Hyde. A report was subsequently filed with the Office of the Ombudsman and with his assistance a criminal complaint was lodged at the Professional Standards Branch of the police department. Hyde has turned to the media because his case is getting nowhere; he has not been compensated as promised nor have disciplinary measures been taken against the officers who were caught on video surveillance at the ATM. This morning, Minister of National Security, John Saldivar, told the media that while he is aware that the shakedown inside the bank was caught on camera, he has not seen footage of the incident.

“I have not seen it, I have not seen it on the news or anywhere but I’m aware of the video and I know that police are investigating. I have been told that the D.P.P. has the file now.”

“Is it something that aggrieves you to see police officers shaking down a citizen, a young man in an ATM, checking his balance and all of that?”

“Certainly, and we will leave no stones unturned in trying to get to the bottom of exactly what took place in there.”

“Should these people be in the police department, the persons who did that to him?”
John Saldivar
“No. They certainly should not and that’s why we are doing our investigation to make sure that whomsoever we can punish will be punished.”

“Sir, when did you become aware of it, was it in the media?”
John Saldivar
“No. I believe that the mother got in touch with me some time ago and at that time her son had not yet gone in to make a statement and I asked her to have her son go in and make the statement, which apparently he did and that’s why the police is now able to investigate.”
According to Hyde, who has since retained the services of an attorney, the police department has been slow in looking into the matter.

The boss get paid to sell visas so he can have an easy life style therefore the policeman rob to attain his easy life style too. We appreciate the help of Channel 5 NEWS only one slight error in the total quantity of monies stolen from Thyrell Hyde on the 8th, september 2013 as reported above by BELIZE POLICE officers. They stole from Thyrell $70.00 which was in his pocket, $3500.00 which was in the glove compartment of his car , and $260.00 from his Atlantic Bank account via the ATM machinemaking it a grand total of $3830.00 belize currency. When corruption occurs in government or in the POLICE force it is learnt and adopted by portions of society which is one of the reason we were not eager to expose this corrupted crime by the police on the media but it seem we had to. When it comes to John SALDIVAR I personally took that video to him if it is his story that he has merely heard of video evidence wich shows his police stealing but he hasn’t viewd the video then his behavior begs the questions, how vîgilent is he, how interested is he of the behavior of his police bad behavior and how interested is he of the safety of a victim that lives in his constituency?
