Elvin Penner says he will not resign

Elvin Penner

Former Minister of State Elvin Penner will not resign as Area Representative of Cayo Northeast. While there has been no official verification of this from either Prime Minister Dean Barrow or Penner himself, he has communicated his decision to the U.D.P. Cayo Northeast Executive Committee. We’ll have their response for you, but first an update on the elusive Penner. He was fired on September nineteenth, stripped of his government portfolio. That was just about seven weeks ago and Penner has yet to offer any interview to the media or explanation to the public. He was fired from government for the part he played in facilitating Belizean nationality and a Belizean passport for a South Korean national, Wonhong Kim. Shortly after, the Prime Minister asked Penner to resign from the U.D.P. after more evidence against Penner was discovered. To date, there has been no disclosure of that damning yet mysterious evidence against Penner. The investigation, if there is still one ongoing, is almost two months old and Penner has played no part in it. Today, Penner is still driving his government-issued SUV, paid for by the taxpayer dollars. He doesn’t have a government portfolio and has no official government work to do, but still collects a very large salary from government. Since he has indicated that he will not resign, he will continue to collect that salary and enjoy the perks of the office.

If this is not corruption, then I don’t know what is? When we spend money for work done, its because we get work done, but how can the man be paid and have a government vehicle, if he is doing no work. As a civil servant, you would have to submit monthly report, and have someone ensuring that you have actually completed the work. Failure to show up at work, warrant dismissal for non production. Penner the crook haffe go! We no dat rich fe the pay dis man fe do nothing.

But then again the flip flapping PM, is protecting Penner and have decided that the man who disgraced his party have to stay, even though he don’t want him. The real question is, who haven’t disgraced the UDP part?

  2. Guerra says:

Show me one good UDP minister and I will show you 12 scoundrels! How do the PM call them Honorable thieves, when he said if you hang out with Ali Baba, who is the PM himself, then you have to be one of the 40 thieves. This is a disgraceful bunch, totally destroying the good name of Belize! No wonder all the crooks want Belizean passport, visa and nationality papers. Its fast becoming the crooks paradise of the world. We must be in the number one spot for that at least!

  3. Guerra says:

Penn er look good behind bars, but it is not the correct bars! Commissioner of police, you need fe come out of your bubble where there is no television, no radio, no phones, and do your job to see that justice prevail. Any man who refuse to deal with this corruption is condoning wrong doing, and as such is not better than the criminals themselves. Do you want to be regarded as the rubber stamp commissioner, who see no evil, hear no evil and have… not a shred of integrity?

  4. not enuf Beano, Deano says:

As Deano the Beano puts it:

The disgraced, but rehabed and humbled, Honorable (but not so honorable) Elvin Penner, “please save the party and resign, but don’t resign, just quit, or resign then un-resign” all from the shear will of our Prime Minister, leader of the crimbinet.

BTW, I still like that photo.

It will be much better when it is shot in Hattieville, just wait for that future episode.

Unlike Eric the Change who can slide back to Taiwan, Elvin is stuck unless his Mennonite buds in Bolivia offer sanctuary.

  6. Oscar965 says:

The Police Commissioner will do NOTHING!!! He is AFRAID!!! Afraid of getting fired…of getting demoted…cause hello…its the bosses who messed up so his hands are tied!!! Period Case Closed!!!

  7. Belizean Boy says:

This visa corruption issue stems far beyond Penner. He is just the sacrificial lamb who was so stupid as to get caught with his hand in the pot. He will not see a day in jail. In fact, he will not see a day in court. It is absurd to think that in a country so small that only Penner and Castro were the ring leaders. I feel that most of the government had at the ver least, some knowledge of what was going on. Such a lucrative scam would surely be systemic in such a small environment. Penner won’t see a day in jail because he knows too much and if he goes to jail, other higher ups would surely follow. The system is too corrupt. The justice system is directly linked to the reigning government, ipso facto, the current administration will not prosecute itself. This is tantamount to a dictatorship, whereby corruption is so blatant that the perpetrators have no fear of prosecution. In the long run those that will pay the price for said corruption is the people of Belize. Other countries will soon take notice, especially the US, and their will be reprocussion on the everyday Belizean. Visas to travel will soon be hard to obtain. If one of foreign nationals who obtain false visas via Belize and end up perpetrating a significant crime in other countries, there will be penalties. Belize is a young nation and cannot sustain this sort of scandal.

  8. Belizean says:

I will put my head on the block and I can be sure that nothing will happen if Penner of Clear the Land Castro ever get any kind of REAL investigations on the visa scandal… Fu**in Barrow is protecting them because he is afraid of losing 2 seats which would bring down his corrupt government. The JACK@55 said that he is personally doing an audit on the records to find discrepancies that will suggest that they were doing illegal things or not. But you guys think he will really inform the Belizean public of his REAL findings??? he think we stupid

  9. man fa college says:

You invite someone to a function or event,Penner still enjoy everything at taxpayers expense because for sure he told el CALVO , that if he go down I weh ker everybody with him,now weh the CALVO weh do?,NADA!!,the people have to take action,no wait fi di PUP or any other organization fi start di move things.Get off uno butt and start demanding action and justice regardless where the axe may fall.It is far way beyond time to take back our country and put all them thiefing politicos and pachocha civil cervants where they belong ” away from public service life and in jail’AMEN
